Hey dudes! I Always love trying out the new foam that hits the market, and When Mike Hammel at Fancy Foam released My good buddy Jeremy Chinn's Vantage,
I had to give it a try! I wanted to try to see how light I could get this one, So I milled the intire airframe as much as I could without going through. I milled 2mm deep into the 3mm foam. I first weighed the stack of parts to figure out the before and after weight. Before, the foam was 50grams, and 32grams after milling. Im VERY happy with that! Here are a few pics of the "post" milling

Thanks dude! Hey nice job at the ETOC by the way! havent seen the vids yet, but i heard you did well!
Not sure what my total weight will be yet... My digital scale isnt working right, so i'm kinda guessing... I'm using: e-flite 250: 14g Phoenix10: 6g(i have removed the heatshrink, shortened wires and soldered to motor, so it may be less, not really sure...) Spektrum AR6100: 3.5g (case removed, now 2grams) Futaba S3114 for ailerons: not sure of the weight...7grams maybe? 2 HobbyCity 3.6g servos for elevator and rudder. thunder power 350mah 2S lipos with heatshrink removed(not sure of weight) Like i said, my scale is off, but right now the finished airframe reads 42grams before the motor mount, control rods and horns. Who knows how it will turn out I would ***** a turtle if i get it under 4oz! that would be sweet!Ok, ok....I know, Its pink and purple....Hey its in honor of my baby girl!

On my Vantage (my backup for my Vrolet at ETOC) I used Dymonds on the tail and a JR 185 on the ailerons.
Use what you are used to and what you like best. My Vantage came in at 4 oz. with some minor things that could be done to save weight. Seth

I think I may go with my dymonds and my s185...I love that combo. I'm also not sure how well those hobbycity servos will center, and i dont want to screw up my new plane with some servos that arent going to perform. we'll see though.

I decided to go with the JR s185 on the ailerons and the Dymond 4.7s on elevator and rudder. I'm pretty happy with the setup so far. it came out a little heavier than I had hoped for, but oh well, it should still fly pretty well. It is sitting at 3 3/8oz
before the battery, wich aint too bad i suppose. Here are a few pictures of the e-flite 250 and servos.... |

Final weight isnt exacty what I had hoped for, but still pretty decent I suppose.
Before the battery, is 3 3/8oz. I'm using the thunderPower 350mah 2 cell lipos, wich weigh around 20grams with the shrinkwrap removed. I tried something a little different with the ailerons, wich i was told would help the the roll control. Here are a couple pictures... The first flight will have to wait until this week when I can find a gym that will let me in, but I had to see how well it hovers...I bit of retardedness at the end of the video...i'm an idiot! no damage, just felt pretty stupid ![]() |
