Anyone else wonder about the "New, popular" way to hook up the tail wheel as was done on the TT TOC Series Yak review in the new issue of MAN? Nylon zip ties and fuel tubing? Is this actually a "popular" way to do it? I don't recall seeing anything like that here in FG land or over on RCU...heck, no place that I can think of anyway.
If you have not seen it, basically it is a nylon tie wrapped around the rudder horn (in this case, a 8 or 10-32 bolt through the rudder in a pull-pull set-up) the tie comes off the horn and into a length of fuel tubing. I'm guessing that inside the tubing is a "head" off the nylon tie to be the anchor, with another zip tie closing off the end of the tube. The same treatment is given on the other end to attach it to the tail wheel tiller. It looked, to me, a bit garish, as the TT TOC Series Yak is a handsome airplane. Springs would have been a lot better looking, IMHO, but I'm not the one that got to do the review. Your thoughts? Jon

Zee, did you see the photo in MAN? If so, have you ever seen this "popular" way of doing it? I wish I could find the pic online to link it here. MAN's website, it seems, is a few months behind on content.

I've seen lots of folks use this method. Its simple to install and keeps the wheel tracking straight. Not as good looking as springs though

Which issue was the picture in? I have never see the furl tubing arengament on tail wheel.
May be is popular somewhere, but not the places I have been. I don't think that I would have one of those on my airplane. I use metal springs, but in compression, just like full scale does. You get better response that way. Zee |

I have yet to hook the spring up on my sd 33% yak. I have the graphtec tail wheel. it came with some control horns and one long spring. How do I go about hooking this baby up? I never hooked up a tail wheel on a giant scale.
