Over here in OZ, we call those Marron. the bigger they are, the bluer they get. We also have a smaller version of fresh water crayfish we call a Yabby....... taste the same as the Marron. best way to cook em is to lightly fry in Butter and Garlic, then add a little chilly, serve with a salad and squeeze a little lime over them....... Droool.....I'm hungry now.
You can just boil em and then dip em in vinegar and cracked pepper, that goes down a treat as well. |

Hey! I got a couple of these in my aquarium. What's the technical name for these lobster-lookin' things? There's plenty here in TN if ya know where to look.

Max, I just might be going to Nall, and if I do, I may very well bring a bag with me for dinner. IF I indeed get to go, it will most likely be Wed. when we get there and they'll have to be cooked before they croak, so it looks like there may be a wiff of mudbugs boiling at Joe Nall Wed. night. Are you going? If so, you need to get in touch with me and make plans to come by the tent, camper, or whatever we camp in and getcha some!

The real reason women in Louisiana get crow's feet around their eyes: They squint really hard and look at the table full of crayfish and ask "You want me to suck whaaaaat??"

I had a great uncle down there Ville Platte(now deceased) who had a CRAWFISH farm. flood out some paddy's, and stock it. I have pictures of my brother and I with cane poles fishin' for some with bacon as bait. Last time I went to the Crawfish festival is when I was about 9 years old. God I miss it...
PS GEAUX TIGERS ... camp is starting

Toro, I hate to see a perfectly good coonass go to waste in Cali. You need to beg Ryan to bring some of that GOOD Boudin from New Iberia. That's what I miss. You can't get real boudin in Shreveport.

So...it it crawfish or mud bug?
I've tried the bacon method of fishin' for there things. You toss out a line with a strip of bacon on it. After a while, you pull in the line and there's mudcrawfishbugs attached to the bacon. They're so greedy that they don't let go (usually).

DUDES!!
I am one of the biggest "crawdad" fisherman on this side of the missisippi! I was born and raised on a 110 acre farm out in a little ol' place called deer island OR. I had a creek ( tide creek ) that winded all the way through our property and miles and miles of creek on both ends to crawdad fish in. All the way up until i was a teenager i was catching them all by hand ( don't need no stinkin' traps!!) And i could walk away with a days catch of hand picked crawdads that would fill two 5 gallon buckets! I only kept the ones that had claws big enough to eat! I got really good , and was actually diving with goggle's in the deep parts , and finding huge Crawdads that escaped me for years..........then there was no where for them to hide. I think down in LA they have more.....but here we have em BIG! I have a picture of one i caught about 10 years ago , when i dipped my traps into the columbia river ( by the lewis run in ). It measure 11" long , with a hair OVER 4" claws! I put it on top of a sunday oregonian newspaper to compare the size. I'll post it here if i can find one. ALSO....MAX......if you are coming up to the mollala pacific coast free style this years , i will do my best to catch you some , cook em up and bring them to you. It depends on the weather though , because my blood is a little thinner now days , and i can't stay in the water as long as i used to. |
