Thanks to a good friend I now have a Lanier 102" Extra 300 kit. I plan on making this into a scale Extra 300SHP
The cool thing about the 300SHP is that it was designed to test the full scale limits of RC 3D. So I can build a plane that I can fly 3d, IMAC and also fly in scale comps and sandbag/crush the circle fliers LOL. I know the design is excellent but the kit is HEAVY!!! This thing is going on a diet. 25-26lbs RTF is my goal and I should easily be able to acheive it. This should give a cubic loading around 8.5 I will use but not have acquired yet: BME 110 (sprice 50's engine I am purchasing) 5955's for the tail, 2 on elev, 2 on rudder 4 5985's / 5955's on the ail's Duralite power system, probably the new Duralite A123 system Canister mufflers with smoke Custom servo extensions and ashlock connectors from Thunderbolt RC Smoke system, I don't know which one is best. My first goal is to clean out the garage aka poo-hole and build a MDF 4x8 torsion box building table. After that I will start what may a painfully slow build. The SHP has very large control surfaces that will work well for me. The SHP has a single exhaust so I am thinking to have a part made to take the 2 separate can tips and make them a single outlet that will be fitted after. I am going to put hard points in for the scale stuff like the aileron spades, etc that I can add and remove withbolts and blind nuts. The fiberglass cowel separates already as it does in the full scale. I will have a pilot and dash (IMAC rules) but I will add a slightly more scale dash than the "sticker ones" (For all the IMACers out there, this is a back up IMAC plane. I have a dedicated 102" qq so don't get your knickers in a knot) The kit also comes with very scale landing gear and fairings. The kit came with a foam turtle deck and fiberglass cowel as I mentioned, on top of the crappy vacuum formed stuff as well as a hardware package. As far as the diet goes any and all relevant input is WANTED!!!! If you have a good design idea or concept please speak up! I am not a novice but I have only ever built 2 kits. I am going to get ppg or similar automotive paint for the cowel, gear, pants and spinner

![]() HAHA.. sorry, had to do it. Project sounds cool. Are you going to re-do the cowl and make it have the square-ish intake holes and all? If so... slow or not this sounds like a cool build. I have to admit, there is something really stellar about seeing a fully scale aerobatic bird. I remember a while back, some one posted a link to a Euro company that makes a scale 150cc extra, that was amazing. Good luck.. keep posting pictures. And as weight savings go... I know the Lanier planes have a slightly simular building style as the Godfreys (I said slightly.. no one needs to get mad). Walt is building Wayne a Godfrey on another thread at this very moment. You may want to peek in and see what Mods Walt has done, and where he (and the original) has removed wood. Could be a good place to start! Good luck.

I am going to mod the fiberglass cowel to look exactly like the 300 SHP. The cowel I have is very close. The kit is a Godfrey design. I will check out the other build, thanks.

I picked up the plans from my friend on the weekend and I am going to cheat on the building table using a door. I went through every single door at Home Dump-hole and found a perfect one.
By switching the aluminum gear and wing tube to CF I can save 1.3 lbs. Another friend of mine is going to help me remove some foam from the stabs and wings. I am going to follow his method he used on a 85" scratch built Sukhoi. You could park a car on top of his wings. I will post pics when I get something done.

So I have made some decisions but no building yet. I did receive my BME 110 from Sprice 50 today and I am very pleased. I am one of those people who need to plan everything single detail out before I do a anything.
I am going to cut another set of foam wings to use as a template for a built up wing. My plan is to cut the new foam wing keeping the leading edge of the foam square to the root Then I can cut the new foam wing where I want the ribs and use the sections as a template using my table saw. I am going to try and make some pocket hinges aka full scale, wildhare, comp arf etc. I am also planing on making the wings "plug into" the fuse as my QQ yak and the full scale does so I will add a bit to the wing length at the root. Next I want to use 1 servo per aileron. The reason is not weight or cost but scale. So I need to figure out a way to make the ailerons torsionally stiff. I am going to modify the existing cowel, then make a plug to make a new fiberglass one. Lucky for me I have some good friends who have experience doing foam cutting and fiberglass.
