Here is what DA emailed me back today. I asked about availability and the comparison between it and the 150 on stock mufflers.

"We are anticipating that the 170's will start shipping around the end
of May begninning of June. The difference in power on the 170 to the
150 is like the difference between a 100 and a 120. We are looking
right now at about a 200 to 300 RPM difference on the high side."

Don't let just the RPM sway you in one direction or the other. The spool up from the massive torque is something you only notice about it if you see it in flight.
I just got a brand new 150 and couldn't be happier, but my next engine will be the 170 - it IS worth the extra dough. Seeing is believing.

Hey, the 150 is just about the winningest engine in giant scale competition history - and if it ever had any bugs to work out, they've been worked out! You won't regret your decision. I didn't
There's always the next project...

Hey that was my thinking on my purchase of a DA 150 at Toledo Great engine, great service and now..an even better price. Thanks to Dave Carr who helped me on the purchase and I can't wait to get her going this spring in my new (well totally redone and modified) Radiowave extra 300S
