The RX's are buried in "LOTS OF FOAM". The white heavy duty stuff from Dubro. The RX's are high up in the canopy as suggested by Frank with 90 degree antennas to remedy other issues of blockage, carbon, signal etc. The RX's itself are covered in foam. But it is indeed in the sunlight. If we buried it in the plane we then promote other issues. However, that will be the option for now. This is becoming a real joggling act.

So even wrapped in foam the RX is reaching 165 degrees? I thought you said that was the surface temperature on the black case of the RX. Guess I got confused.
So where are you measuring the 165 degree temps?

Thank you for this post and information. I do not fly Futaba, and I am not rejoicing in the appearance of them having an issue. OK, that is out of the way.
This thread should become a poster board for how the Internet and problem resolution can take place. 1. There appears to have been an issue 2. The people with first hand experience tried to locate the solution and did not resort to shrill rhetoric. The proceeded with a logical approach. 3. The units were sent in for checkout and NPFed (No Problem Found) This was true under the test conditions. 4. Being observant and following a repeatable set of test conditions, the cause of the issue appears to have been found. With this information, the producer can confirm the issue (or not) and proceed to locate the true root cause and resolution. 5. The issue will be solved and everyone will benefit with minimal drama and in short order. Things happen. As complexity increases, the chance for unexpected situations will increase. Looking for solutions, calmly and methodically, always works best. Thank you.

Sorry you are correct. When we did the tests we did not have the foam on them. Measured it directly on the case.

I am having the same problem with my R6014 Receiver. Even here in the North when the receiver is directly under the canopy it can have problems. Funny thing is my 8 channel 2.4 receivers don't have the same problem.

Judge, If the electronics in your brand new car stopped working at 165 degrees and the dealer told you to stop leaving it in the sun, what would your response be? |

A) Futaba has said no such thing B) I said no such thing C) Explain to me how getting it shielded from the sun is a bad thing? And that is all I said. Getting it out of the sun can't be a bad thing.

Great job guys, if this turns out to be true we owe these guys thanks for discovering it before people lose planes. As expected there will be a learning curve with this new system. Like Judge says, it may end up just being another thing to keep in mind when designing an installation. I'm glad to see that this thread is focusing on the issues, and solutions, not bashing. keep us informed!

I guess it makes sense that (at least so far) you haven't seen problems in the air... there's probably plenty of air circulating through while flying. But I never imagined that it could get that hot inside the fuse without ever starting the engine.
I've got cans on my composite plane, with plenty of cooling slots under them, and after a landing, it gets pretty warm in the fuse... I'll have to keep an eye on this, and remember to cover the canopy when summer gets here. |

Lazun, can you positively say that it is the Rx and not the Tx module that is susceptible to high temperatures? Did you perform a test with the Rx in cool condition and the module in hot condition?

I was going to try and recreate this issue today, but mother nation is not letting up here in the North. I will try to do it later in the week once it starts to get sunny again. Chane

Thats wild! I would never have thought that. I have 4 6014's in use right now and where I live, it can get pretty hot during the day. I am hoping there is a sloution for this when Futaba finds out.
My receivers are exposed to indirect sunlight especially without a canopy cover on them but I will keep my eyes open as far as heat inside the fuselage, and let some friends of mine know that bit of information. Thanks so much for the info. you have provided. You may have saved quite a few planes and I am sure many people will thank you too. Blair

Good info! We're using them in the jets down here. It gets hot as heck here in the summer! I guess I'll have to tell the guys that they need to use another receiver or put their jet back in the AC until they're ready to fly again, EEK! Of course this isn't futaba's fault but if they so decide to correct the issue it would sure be nice if they could update the 2.7v annoyance as well..
