Remember that there has been a long holiday period here, where most companies shut down for 7-14 days.

If they were to come on one of these forums and actually ADMIT that there is an issue, that would go a LONG way towards making folks feel that they are indeed "doing something"!

The silence we hear now is deafening.

Well, BAX has come on the forums and admitted that they are aware of the issue. What more do you want?? And Futaba themselves NEVER come on any forums, the only official Futaba related presence on the web is Hobbico/Great Planes, that being Bax and Krysta.

The silence you hear is what happens when a problem is actually studied and a cause determined before they simply start typing away on their keyboard. Until they actually have something to say they are likely not to say anything, no matter how impatient people get.

With as many posts as there have been on this thread as well, it's tough to remember that this has been first reported a little over a week ago. In real time that's really not a long time to hear back about a solution. I have my FASST stuff sitting around that I paid for just like you guys, but the caliber and reputation of manufacturers like JR and Futaba gives me some reassurance that whatever problem exists will be taken care of.

Run my own test with a brand new R617FS just now:

Pre-heated the oven to 80°C. Placed the 4 cell Nicad from my Spektrum and the R617FS in a glass bowl and put it in the oven.

When I took the LED went from green to red I took it out immediately and measured the housing temperature: 70°C

It changed from red to green when the housing temperature dropped to 50°C.

This is an easy procedure everyone can do at home - and it does not take long. It is also much less risky than using a heat gun.

After a week of reading all about Futaba FASST RX's having overheating issues, and resulting in them shutting down, I did a bit of a mod to my plane today, and put a small cooling duct in the side of the fuse adjacent/just forward of the RX, this proved very successful, after each flight the RX "felt bearly above ambient, and it was surprising how much it cooled everything else as well.
That aside, this morning I used a heat gun to try and induce the problem, and could not get it to shut down, I did not have a temp gun, but I did get the RX a lot hotter than I would feel comfortable with (very, very hot to touch) So I personally feel comfortable using the system, I remove the canopy from the plane whilst sitting on the ground and park it in the shade, so that removes the baking effect on the ground.

Would be nice to see some pics of your cooling duct. Which Rx are you using?

I stuck my receiver and battery in the microwave for 5 min and now they don't work at all. I checked the manual and it doesn't say anything about not putting your RC equipment in the microwave so I'll be sending it back under warranty

Heated a Schulze Alpha 435 and a Spektrum AR6100 to a case temperature of 80°C in the oven - no failure. Did not want to go any higher, as 80°C is for sure well above any RC manufacturer specification.

We have a hot day here today, around 27 C at the moment.
My Hawk has been sitting out on the patio for around 1 hour now, switched on.

The canopy is very hot (as you would expect) but the rx is in the fus around 3 inches below that.
So far no issues at all, and the rx does not feel warm to the touch.

I will keep checking over the next hour.

Those guys having temperature problems with their FASST receivers:

What voltage are you feeding those rx with?

I have two 2-cell lithium Ion batteries going into a Smart-Fly regulator, feeding 6 volts through 2 leads to the Power Box... it feeds 6 volts to the receiver and servos.

That little winky should give you a clue.

Has anyone had a problem in an installation where the receiver is not directly exposed to the sun? It seems all I've seen is installations where the receiver is under an open canopy.
