Are you looking to fly something at your local field or actually come giant scale racing.

Due to the landing speed and glide characteristics of most giant scale race planes typical local runways (~750') are not long enough.

If you want something that is able to fly at your local field maybe you should try the Sundowner by Horizon Hobbies. There is a thread in this forum that has discussed this airplane extensively.

If you are looking to race there are kit manufacturers in California, Texas and Ohio. Contact information can be provided directly if desired.

Yellow man,
If you are really jazzed about our racers why don't you come to the race in Rantoul next month? This will be the easyiest way to see the planes up close. Who knows you might get to help out with one of the race teams.

We just started some fun racing at our club. Most of us have bought the GP Viper 500 with TT.40 and stock muffler. I can't tell you how much fun we have had. So far its nothing formal, just about 5-10 of us with the planes.

If you want something affordable, quiet, small, and not only looks like it is going wickedfast, but actually IS fast, look into a Speed400 class racer, but an outlaw. The true speed400 planes use a brushed speed400 motor and 6 or 7 cell nimh pack. They go pretty fast - maybe hitting 100mph out of a dive. But an outlaw would use a Mega, Medusa, Neu, etc. brushless motor and 3-4cell lipo and do 130+ in straight and level flight! Sure, those giant scale planes are cooking along at 230+, but they have about a 90 inch wingspan - the speed400 class planes only have a 25-30" wingspan, so they look like they are REALLY cooking!

I just finished a Sundowner 50 to play with. Its a forty sized racer, probably sport-scale. Its from Hanger 9. I hope to fly it after Joe Nall.
