I am new to large planes and gas engines. I would like to find a stik that will take a 50cc engine. I want to be able to take the engine to a 30% YAK eventually. I owned a GP Big Stik 60 and it flew very well. I looked at the GP Giant Big Stik but it is not supposed to take an engine that large. I would also like to have 3D size surfaces on the plane, maybe similar to a Wild Stik.
I am sure someone has a great solution .Thanks, Wayne |

I had a Brillelli 46, and a few months ago, I had the same idea.. I wanted something inexepensive, fun to fly, and able to take a wind stronger than I like to fly my "good stuff" in...
Unfortunately, as you have found, the Giant Big Stick is about as big as they get, and its just too small for that size motor. You could probably force an engine this size in there, but then you'd have to put a ton of weight in the tail to balance. A 50cc engine is made for a plane in the 15 pound range, and most lighter planes just don't have a stiff enough firewall to support something that size. |

You could get away with it as long as you have at least 1150-1200 square inches of wing area on the plane. A good 50cc engine like the Da, DL or Evolution will weigh in at around 3pounds. I have even seen 50cc engines on Profile type aircraft. Just beef up the firewall a little and use good throttle management. Guys are know adding 50cc powerplants on 25% planes with great success.

The GB Wild Stik 1.20 has a flying weight of about 10lbs, is already a tail dragger, has a wing area of 1315 sq in, and has 3D size control surfaces. This ARF is only $120 so I could consider moving the firewall back and a smaller tank to help with any CG issues. Well, just an idea. I would like to get this on a smaller, less expensive plane to start. The Giant Big stick has more wing area and rated heavier but I know it is nose heavy to start with. I checked the manual and they talk about using a Fuji BT-32. That engine is 4.11lbs with Muffler, bolts, etc. It also says that there is a plywood engine mount plate and standoffs for that engine. If it can take a 4lb Fuji, the 3lb DL-50 should work? I may not find the solution I am looking for but I appreciate the help in the hunt. The Giant Big Stik may be the best compromise. Wayne |

None of the engines you mentioned weigh 3 pounds once you add the muffler, EI, spark plug, etc etc. Here is a very accurate chart.. http://www.rcaerobats.net/GAS_ENGINE...ENGINE_WTS.htm 50cc on a 25% plane is a waste...

If you are willing to build you could get a Bridi Big Bee kit. It is a giant scale stik like plane. this would open up a whole lot of kit bashing options for you. My first giant scale plane was a big bee and we bashed the snot out of it to look like an extra. It has a 98 in wing but that could be shorted. The possibilities are endless. Maybe worth a look.

Wouldn't the Giant U-Can-Do and also the Bling 3D be decent start points & in the reasonable price category too? I was looking at the Bling pretty hard for awhile. It was like $325 and seems to include most of the accessories too.

Thanks for all the input. I am purchasing a Wild Stik for now. They are on sale for $120. I doubt that it will work with the DL-50 but It may be just as well to skip that and go to the 28% - 30% that I want as the end result.
Thanks again, Wayne |
