Hey guys, I need to make a decision here. I am wanting to go bigger, I just finished a 75cc Aeroworks Yak with a ZDZ Super 80 in it and I am going to maiden it hopefull in a couple of weeks. I have an Aeroworks 50cc Yak that has only 9 flights on it everything was purchased new,the plane is like new, the DA 50 isn't even broken in (only 9 flights), what I am wanting to do is to go to a 100cc plane and have the 100cc and also keep the 75cc Yak. Should I sell the 50cc and and just go big or keep it around, I could use the money to fund the 100cc plane somewhat, looking at the Jtec Radiowave 2.7 Extra 300/DA-100 combo. I just like the bigger planes, so does the wife!!!
Thanks in advance

You should definately sell it to me for $39.95!! LMAO Personally, I would keep the plane for use as a practice or warm-up plane or those days you just don't feel like hauling the 100cc out to the field. If you sell it, despite it being new, you're going to lose your butt on what it cost you.

It all depends on room. If you have the room to keep it definitely keep it. What may happen though is you will love flying the bigger birds so much that your 50CC will just sit there and collect dust. But if you could use the 50CC has a beater bird keep it.

I enjoy the heck out of my 50cc birds. It's hard to say. If you can get most of the money you have into it, then sell. If your going to take a big hit, I'd keep it. That's one thing about this hobby, resale is horriable!

I agree with the rest of them here, keep it, I am in the same predicament as you, I always fly my 33% and 35% birds so the 50cc just sits there. But if I ever need it I have it, whether for fun-flys or because the other airplanes are down for maintenance.

Every plane on the wall costs you exactly nothing if you keep it (unless a significant other complains...).
If you sell it you will be LUCKY to get more than about 60% return on investment. If you want to save money on a 100cc plane buy used. Many people get the plane, then try to sell it. It is definitely a buyers market and you can pick up used planes for 60% - 70% of the original cost. Anybody who pays more than that is doing somebody a favor! If you have the space just keep it and enjoy it from time to time... |

Thanks guys for the replies, I know that I would take a big hit on the plane if I sold it, I may just end up keeping it and as said from time to time fly it. I'm going to get the Radiowave airframe new, they are only about 35 minutes from me here locally and I can drive over and look at them first hand and bring it home with me, less all those shipping charges!! Al and Kevin are great guys and they stand behind their product from what I have heard. Maybe I can find a good deal on a slightly used DA-100 for the plane. Still any and all comments are welcome. Thanks

FYI: We flew the 2.5 (98 in wingspan) with the DA 85 yesterday and it was balistic. I am putting the DA85 in the 2.7 ( 104" ws) and should have some results towards the endo of the week. With the way the 85 performed on the first flight I think the 2.7 Radiowave 300 and the 85 are going to be a killer combo. I have a customer with the 2.7 and Da 100 combo and he is in at 25.5 lbs. and that is without any carbon. We have gear and tubes that will save at least another pound. The 85 is about 1.5 pounds lighter than the 100 All the planes will be on display at Joe Nall Al

My recommendation will save you some money and time. If you like big planes and you like the way the bigger planes fly (always remember.....bigger flies better), I'd sell the 75cc Aeroworks and get a 40% airplane. You'll find a lot of good deals on used DA150's real soon as the 170 is due out. If you have room to transport a 100cc plane, you have room to do the same with a 40% plane if you make the rudder removable (easy to do).
I wish someone would have told me that several years ago so I wouldn't have had to take such a bath on selling two 33% planes. Keep the 50cc for a knock around plane and one that you can throw together quick and fly on a Thursday evening. Again, if you like the way the big planes fly, it's not a matter of if you'll have one some day, it's when. So......save yourself the money and aggravation and get a 40%. They extra money you will spend on the airframe and what little extra you spend on the radio equipment going from a 33 - 40% plane will be less than the loss you'll take when you eventually sell the 33% plane. A used DA150 will probably be close in price to a new 100. The 3.2 Jtec 300 would be a great choice. Think about this and ask around. You'll find most guys that own 40% planes will tell you the same thing. The ones that will talk you out of it are the ones that decided on the 33% themselves and are justifying what they did. Learn from my mistakes. Go big, go now, go fly................ .............Mark |

Keep it!! Some of these suckers at my local field are finally understanding all of the preaching that I've done about having a backup or in-between flights plane! It's nice to be able to fly and fly again while the other is charging or cooling or being gassed.

Once I flew the big planes (35% and 40%), my 50cc just sat around. I ended up selling the 50cc plane and picking up a DA-85 and H9 Sukhoi.
