Default First time to Hover ! Thanks Chris at Extreme Flight for such a good Yak 54!

I have had this plane for a year and talked several of my buddies into buying EF Yaks before I had another buddy build mine for me. So my friend--- thats an expert builder--- puts this thing together for me and I maiden it and it only needs two click of up. On the fifth flight the wind lays down and I pulled it in low over the runway and it just parks there! Been trying to do that for years with other planes to no availe and this one essentially does it on the first try.

Thanks Chis at Extreme Flight for making me look like a pro! Have over three days of flying on it know and to many hovers to count.

Those EF planes are very good I hear, but don't discount the effect your builder had on it also.
Seems like he got the plane balanced just right for the way you like too fly, with that comes the most important thing........CONFIDENCE..........after that it's nothing but fun......Congrats!
I would love to try the 110 size plane if they ever get them in stock....

Just an FYI, I moved this thread to the appropriate forum.

Glad that you are happy with your plane. Chris puts out a great product!

You could always try the Vess 23B for better performance. I rocket out of a hover with no problem. This is just an awesome plane. It kinda spoils ya but hey performance is awesome. The Extra is also awesome.

I have an 23A that is undrilled and was going to send it back to DA and swap it for the B. But this engine is being broken in for a second time after returning from DA with a new piston and cylinder and crank. So I am using this NX prop for breakin. I have several Vess Props and like them.

As for the new piston and cylinder and crank. No more Lawnboy Ashless for ME. No Wars Here!!! (just my experience) and have switched to Penzoil Air Cooled and can see the difference from the start. Will switch to Redline Racing when done with the recommended 4 gallons.

Tailchaser,
Yes my builder slash good friend talked me into buying this plane and I wanted to build it and just could not shake loose to get it done. His skill and knowledge of this hobby is second to few.
He kept me from adding to much weight!

If you put this plane in a 45 Deg. climb and invert it, it will keep climbing and never fall off of the 45.
Thats a well balanced plane!

Thats too bad that you had a bad experience with the DA-50 it is truly an awesome engine. DA has excellent product support! I switched mine over to the Redline Racing oil. Man what a difference in the idle and transitions. Leaned it and it now has tons of power. My dad flies a P-51 with an Evolution 35GT2 and we even noticed the difference in that. Those Vess props are killer with this airframe no problem with gravity!

To the contrary DA has always been good to me. I just stated the facts without qualifying any of my statements just to keep from getting off subject. Now to qualify quickly, this DA-50 has less than 6 gallons of fuel thru it and the ring was stuck. It only had about 2 gallons since it came back from DA the first time. So some how my piston ring got stuck. Was running Lawnboy Ashless as recomended and then was on Amsoil at 100/1 and not 90/1 or 80/1. This engine is about 4 years old. When I told the guys at DA the story they offered not to charge me or take off half my charges and I would not accept. Because they did not know if I was lying or not. So hence the switch in oils!
