Default Jtec 40% Extra 300/330 or CA 38% Extra??

Hey there,

I'm looking into possibly buying one of these kits: Jtec Radiowave Extra "PAK" kit in either 300 or 330 or the Colombo Anderson 38% Extra 300. I don't have any experience with either of them so I was hoping to hear from you guys what your thoughts are. I've narrowed it down to these two kits mostly because the wings/stabs are pre sheeted and they are reasonably priced. I also came across a 38% Extra ARF at Planes Plus that is due to be released sometime soon. Is it a knock off of a Colombo? It's priced at 999.99 which is on par with the kits that I'm looking at so it could very well be another option. Whatever plane I end up with will serve as a back-up Imac plane so I'm trying to keep the cost down. I already have all the gear and engine so its a matter of picking a good all around airframe. I'm just getting started in Imac and so far I really enjoy it. Having a good back-up plane seems like a good idea. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I asked Carla a while back about the PP 38% ARF and she said that it would be a ways out at the earliest, if even at all....

I have a JTEC 300 and am pleased with my minimal time on it. I can tell you that the JTEC will be probably 2-3 lbs heavier than the CA, but the JTEC is a larger plane....125" vs 119"...mine definitely does not feel heavy. I haven't gotten a chance to weigh it but it should be about 40 lbs....my buddy had a CA and I think it was around 37 lbs.

I won't be holding my breath for the PP Extra. It's been listed as "coming soon" for a long while now so I'll cross that one off my list
I'd have to agree with you on the weight, 37-38 seems to be the norm for the CA's. Without a doubt either plane would serve me well and I know I would be happy with either of them. Did you build your Jtec or did you go with the ARF? If you built it, did you like how it went together? Any issues?

Thanks.

I bought it second hand fron JeeUm and it was an arf so I don't have any knowledge of the assembly process. I'm not sure if it was here or on RCU but there was a build thread of the midwing Extra from JTEC...

rollingharrier is currently doing a build thread on the 300 PAk kit. He is almost complete. He is in the covering stage. I belived he picked it up just about a month ago.

When you are considering weight remember that the Radiowave is 2800 sq inches. and is much bigger than most 40% planes

The Pak kits beside being presheeted have all the control surfaces cut and double beveled for max 3D throws, all servo bays are pre installed and all surfaces are pre slotted for hinges

If you have any questions please give us a call at 704-799-1658, we'll be glad to help you out.

Thanks
Al & Kevin

Hey Al,

Thank you for the reply. I might have to go the Jtec route only because you are so quick at responding to questions. I asked about some mufflers the other day and you responded within a few hours...I like that. I've heard really good things about your service and products. Anyway, I was considering buying within a few months. I have a freind that is going to build it for me and right now he has another project to finish up first. At any rate, I'll give you a call.

Thanks.
