Does anyone know where I'm able to buy a new one, any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Antony, That WildHare Extra was bought second hand by myself from Grant Woolhouse here in Chch (grant_kiwi@xtra.co.nz) I believe he imported it himself from Australia?? You could try getting touch with him as he'd be able to tell you what outlet it was purchased from and when.

Failing that I'd suggest gettin touch with Geoff Hall (geoff.sandy@slingshot.co.nz) I think he was getting WildHare's into NZ a while back? he may be able to put you right...

You could also ask Baldrick or Alec Taylor where they get their own ones made... I think there is a guy up north that does them? I recall there being someone in Chch who was able to do them too but either way you'd still need to make a pretty good plug for the canopy first.

Good luck
Patrick

Hey Guys,

I understand there is a guy out at CRFC (lake elesmere club) that has gear to form clear canopies. aparently you need a plug, but you can make a plaster one with either you original canopy - or borrow someone elses. i will find out more details as i now need a replacement for my funtana.

Note to self: do not be tempted to race with boy racers in stupid yellow lowered cars through the waimak gorge when you have planes in the back of the car.

Hey Everybody! Those are not Wild Hare planes. They are our design, bought from our (former) builder, but we at Wild Hare had no part in the transaction. In other words we got ripped off, our name and schemes were used without our permission. I'm sorry it happened but Wild Hare had no part in it.

How do you know for sure it wasn't a genuine Wildhare?

We never shipped anything to New Zealand is my recollection. I asked who the original buyer was and he was unable to supply a name that I could verify as a customer.

I know that there was at least a whole container of planes that went to NZ, this is not the firstr time I have encountered one.

No I'm not trying to start anything... but this model wan't bought in New Zealand It was imported from Australia. I bought it second hand of a guy called Grant Woolhouse who apparently imported it himself along with the DA50 from Australia (I do not know specific details about a dealer etc.) but it was my understanding the model I bought was a genuine Wildhare. I sold it to you Antony believing it was a genuine Wildhare amd am a little dissappointed to hear that that was probably not the case...

Paul Chinnery is the man here in Chch. He might even have a canopy that would be useable but don't quote me on that.

Hey Antony, are you taking your open cockpit Extra out to the field on the weekend? It’s promising weather for the cockpit to become a bathtub
It’s a shame the manufacturer won’t supply spare parts for their aircraft unless you’re the original owner. Not a good look for them and wouldn’t make me want to rush out and buy one!

Try Ian Howard at Desert Aircrfat Aust, I am sure he or Richo will be able to help.

I don't think thats what he's getting at... I know for a fact that Wildhare do stand by their products and offer great customer support (otherwise they wouldn't be one of the worlds leading model aircraft manufacturers) It looks like Wildhare have been "screwed" for lack of a better word by a former employee who is producing models under the name of Wildhare without permission. I knew that was the case at the time I bought this particular model however as this model was imported from Australia I was lead to believe it was a genuine Wildhare.

I think is is a bit unfair that Tom Fawcett of Wildhare is not stepping up to help out in this case, especially as neither Antony or myself was aware that in fact this was not a genuine Wildhare product when it was purchased... I would like to see some further justification that it is in fact a 'rip off' and not a genuine wildhare - basing it on the fact that it was purchased in New Zealand is not only incorrect but also unfair as this is actually the third owner of the model.

I am sure DA Australia would be happy to help too, they are great guys and provide excellent service across the ditch to us blokes in NZ.

Regards
Patrick

Yep, that's what it looks like. But just because WH got ripped off by someone within their own chain, that's no reason to display their current attitude to a punter who has bought one of their products in good faith thinking it was the genuine article - and to all intents and purposes it is the genuine article, not a cheap and nasty low quality copy. They're just miffed that they got "done" from within their organisation, and they have every right to be miffed, but why pass this on to innocent parties?

Exactly! You and then Antony has bought the plane in good faith and is now looking to purchase a replacement canopy. Where's the good will from WH to help out a customer who thought he was purchasing a genuine WH product? I saw the aircraft when he first got it and he definitely thought it was genuine as did I.

Come on Wild Hare, do the right thing and sell the man a canopy.

Cheers
Owen
