I have heard the stories about the cap snapping, and I've deliberately tried to induce this but couldn't get the plane to do anything unexpected. I have the rates set up per the manual with the recommended high rates set as my low rates and the 3D rates set as my 3D rates.

I can also tell you that any plane will snap when its put on the wrong situation, I've seen it time after time when people get too slow and yank, I don't think its just a problem with the cap in particular. Certainly this particular cap seems to be very forgiving.
Good deal.
BTW i love Caps too. I have been looking at this new one and it sounds like a good one to get. I will probably get the DL50 also.
What set up are you running as far as servos, Batts, and etc?

Never mind I read the first post over lol.

JClark,
Check for being a tad tail heavy........ CAPs that have a way to aft a CG can be as you claim. One that is set up slightly tail heavy (as in being ready for some serious 3D) can have the crap yanked out of their elevators and you'll experience nothing but pleasure! Those little 27% CAPs ought to be a ball! Happy Flying!

Well, I was going to reply to JClark, but you guys already stated what I was going to say.

Oddly, I have the old Great Planes Cap 21, but the .60 size. It flies like a dream! I've NEVER had it snap on me unexpectedly, and it's one of the smoothest planes I have... and it's a floater, too. Never even a hint of dropping a wing.

Maybe mine's like Herbie the Beetle. It just has that special something

I had this plane a year ago and it was nothing but a pleasure to fly, would do anything you ask and as stated it was a floater and would land like a trainer. As far as any unexpected snaps that's untrue, this plane will not do that. If I knew that the GP 580 33% flew as good as this plane I would have one of those in a minute. Just my experience.

Your transmitter looks like it ate someone. Someone wearing earphones.

Cspaced: love the review, nice plane! but this line from your first post:

The plane is awesome with a 50cc on the front. I have it balanced right on the CG and it seems very happy there.

This one had me chuckling lol. I know what you meant, but my first thought was, I didn't know you could get a plane to balance on anything but the center of gravity. lol...... Great thread!

Don't sweat the snap thing CSpaced. We tried everything to make mine snap and it just wouldn't. Only problem I ever had was the floating but if you put a spoileron mix in so both ailerons pop up about 5%. Takes the float right out and it lands really nice. Here's a video of Kyle Woyshnis wringing mine out when it still had the OS 160 in it. This is about the third flight.

I'm not worried anymore Cool vid, looks like the OS 160 had plenty of vertical power.

One thing I forgot to mention was the amount of pre fabrication done on this arf. All of the hinge points were predrilled, the wheel pants had the blind nuts installed ready to be bolted on, and it comes with all the hardware you need which is all very useable. Its a very impressive kit.

Nice vid!! I'm looking for a 50cc bird at the moment and considering the Extreme Flight Extra or Yak, but at 13 lbs, this plane has "rocket" vertical for sure.
Thanks,
Jim

Thanks, for a 50cc this is a hard kit to beat. The funny thing is I would never have looked at it as a possibilty until my buddy bought one and I got to check it out first hand. Between rebates and deals going on at TH, I ended up paying about $250 for the plane.

While I was flying it I got a feel for what kind of mixes it will need. As with most airplanes it will need some up elevator to rudder mix, and a very slight amount of aileron to rudder mix as it wants to roll ever so slightly to the outside when in a flat turn. You can fly it old school and fly the "mixes", but I'll be programming the radio to do the work for me so I can just have fun I'll work on the mixes when i get it back from 'Nall and post up what I end up doing.
