Default Futana reduced to confetti. Bother a rebuild?

Ok, my beloved funtana has bit the dust HARD!! Poor thing is crushed beyond recognition. The muffler was ripped right off of poor great running saito engine. $90 plus to get it repaired.

My day started like this. Get to the field fuel, range check, battery check, then fly. The plane was flying beautifully. I had just changed to 30% nitro and WOW what a difference. I had rocket vertical. Anyways, I started doing a few some 3D, rolling circles hover and blenders. After that, I went to make a turn and had no alieron control, just rudder, elevator and throttle. So the plane was at knife edge, and well, this plane doesn't knife edge very well without SFG's. So it got lower and lower till I thought "it's over, cut the power and save some damage".

Upon inspection, we say the alieron totally torn from the plane. So, we are guessing the alierons were fluttering, causing the alieron control and the plane's demise.

There is lots of tiny pieces that I thought I might as well pick up. So, any up for a rebuild?

I had a 50 X that looked like that one day. Mine was due to a stripped aileron servo. You must not have enough rudder set in your plane. I can knife edge all day long with my 100X no sfg. Turns, loops, high alpha, you name it it will do it. I have my rudder maxxed on the throw. Just so it clears the elevator.

Oh yeah that does suck though. Sorry about your loss.

I feel your pain, same thing happened with our Funtana. Its happened so many times with Funtanas at our field that they are no longer allowed. There are a couple of threads on RCU about Funtanas fluttering apart -- too much aileron surface area for the hardware provided. Same thing happens with the Hangar 9 Showtime.

hey do you use the ca hinges?? if so thats most likey the reason why. if you do buy a new plane dont use the ca ones buy the pins or the door hinge style

sorry for your plane but at least you got it all back and it not hanging in a tree

I would get a new muff for your Saito and get a OMP 65 inch yak.. Much better plane in that class will do more 3D and s more stable.. Also more squares...IMHO...

Another great one in that size is the OMP fusion. Really performs on a Saito 125, and does everything in the book. I have still have my original Funtana 90, that was from the first shipment when they were originally released. Still flys great! YS91AC in it for power on 30% nitro.

Actually, instead of flying with the saito, I've been looking for a profile for my .46 ax. I don't feel like paying 90 plus for a repair at the moment.

(and well, I don't have money for a .90 size airframe)

I've been through a few Funtanas! For a plane such as that, you have to consider if it's just worth another $200 beans to get another one instead of spend countless hours turning the toothpicks back into a flying machine.

$200 isn't that bad...I've spent five times that much gambling in one evening..although that night made me give up gambling..lol.

Another one in that 46AX size would be the OMP Boxxer lots of squares. I think it would great on a .46...IMHO....

Caveat - I dont own yet - not yet...anyway...

Anyone else got an opinion on the Boxxer???
