Update:
A little further, engine is mounted, wings are on, and control surfaces are glued. Next will be plumbing smoke lines and control linkages. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Not really sure what I'm gonna do about the engine cowl yet.
When mounted it will be an inch away from the prop washer. I will need to do some cutting of it also for some muffler and carb contact. I may not do anything except keep it just incase the 50cc ends up being way to much power. I think I will buy a 25% Yak 54 cowl and use that instead. A little larger in diameter ( 3/8" ) and is longer, so I can get it closer to the prop. It will also keep the Stearman look.

That's actually a REALLY good Idea!
I live where it gets upwards of 125* F. so I know about getting the most from cooling- I am thinking of baffling my 53cc engine in my extra for the summers- I usually just hack (neatly, of course....) my cowls up on the glow jobs, and run 'em a bit richer, but the big gas guy scares me a bit..... Watching anxiously to see how that yak cowl looks if you decide to go through with it!! Honestly I think that's a great idea as long as it has the same(ish) proportions, just a bit bigger- ![]()

Got a little more done.
Mounted servos and Opto kill switch. Each elevator half has it's own servo, instead of connecting two pushrods together. Hardest part was getting the throttle linkage past the smoke system and having it get the throttle to stick position correct. I put the wings on for a quick balance check. No RX battery or ignition battery in in yet, and it balanced perfectly to the manuals CG. I should be ok, and able to adjust batteries around and not ad any weight to the plane. ![]()

Hello, Robinhood, and anyone else on this thread.
Did you ever fly your GP Super Stearman with the 50 cc. engine? If you have the kahoonas to use a 50 cc. then what do you think of this: I have a GP Super Stearman ARF in the box I'm going to start putting together this winter. I also have 3 brand new engines sitting around looking for a home: the recommended O.S. 1.20 Surpass, an O.S. 1.60 2-cycle, and a G-38 with spring/recoil stater. I'm trying to save bucks this year, so I'd like to use one of those 3 engines, and not buy a new one just for this plane. What do you guys recommend? I'm not looking for speed either (LOL!! ), but I'd appreciate some vertical on this plane. A lot of people say the O.S. 1.20 Surpass is just not enough power. Thanks for any responses.

I have ben just so swamped with other things that I haven't finished it yet.
I did put the 50cc in a Yak that I needed more power in. The Brillelli 36cc that I took out of the Yak is going into the Stearman when I get some time to finish it up. When I do, I will post more pictures and video.

Great build!!!! There is a guy at my club with this plane and he has the new DL-50 in it. Plane flys great and looks like a great combo. Does not seem over powered. Good luck.........

What would you guys think my trying either a Zenoah G-38 or an O.S. 1.60 2-cycle in the Super Stearman? More power than the O.S. 1.20 Surpass 4-cycle. I don't have the bucks to buy a 50 cc. motor at this time.

i will pick up the torch and run with it. i now have the super stearman. i will also fit her with the crcc pro 50 i just have laying around...funny thing, i just crashed a pt17 (same plane but blue and yellow) that had a g26. flew awesome for a scale version. flew fast on the downwinds and barnstorming style of flying but lacked seat of the pants punch. you needed to fly it to get her to move out. now i know the scale guys are rolling their eyes but with 4 servos and the 50 she should be a blast. funny thing is the pt 17 had a zenoah g26 magneto gasser. my crrc 50 weighs in only 1.6 oz heavier. its a no brainer for me i am no scale guy wont hurt my feelings. ill post pictures as soon as i mount the motor this week. the rest of the build is straight forward.
