ok here she goes! shhh... i dont want to hear the word scale on this build unless you say out of scale. this is the flying giants not the sissys club! motor mounted cowl cut servos in wings done. final touches this weekend. rain lots of rain projected for us right thru the weekend. plenty of time to finish now.... whats going to be interesting is that the pt17 i had which is the basic stearman in military colors had a g26 in it. the crrc 50 weighs 6 ounces more than the 26 zenoah. in order to get the plane to barnstorm it required you to climb and fly nose down. if you lost your speed you needed to climb and dive again. the 50 should eliminate this and fly at 1/2 throttle otherwise. time will tell if i am a fool and his money soon parted.worth the risk in my book. all servos and hardware have been upgraded to 1/4 scale. more to come

Don't forget to baffle that cowl - it's so huge that air will blow right by the head and may not provide must cooling!!

yes sad to say it was the one that went in. notice no muffler or carb? those also were damaged. but all new pieces ready to go !

the stearman comes with one of those cheezy plastic fake motor plates as a baffle. not sure i have the want to use it. i think i willmake a smoked or painted balsa duct to control cooling. more to come later.

Looking great! One word of caution- In the picture of the engine with the cowl removed, I see the tee in your fuel line that I assume will go to your fuel dot. These tees have proven brittle and the orifices have been as small as the diameter of the shaft of a straight pin. approx 1mm- I was given an aluminum tee from a friend and have no idea where he got it, but will try to remember to ask next sunday at the field. If I have a chance, I'll take a picture of the tee with the "microscopic" orifice. looks like the exact tee you have on the plane.
I was having a heck of a time tuning my motor until the brittle tee snapped, and revealed the orifice. once replaced, the motor was almost a set and forget deal!

good eye on that one. actualy that is the same size as the inside of the tygon but it is an automotive vapor system tee. it will fail in a week or so due to the alcahol content we have here in ma. it is there for mock up. i have metal ones coming from dons hobby. i may however need to use it for the weekend if they dont get here in time. that is a good point for others to see. also normaly i do not put a filter between the carb and the tank as it could lead to a lean condition if it were to become plugged. i filter the clunk in my gas can, a filter on my line from the neck of the can to my line to fill and another between my fuel dot and the tee. also my vent hose will have a filter to keep junk from getting in the tank from the trunk !

Right on- I was just concerned a bit- If you were to break it, you may, or may not be surprised at what's inside...... like I said, I'll post a pic if I can find the old tee- I swear I just came across it- The hole on the ends indeed were the same ID as the tygon, but what was inside was TINY! Just a heads up- I'm on a mission now to find the darn thing! lol BTW, I wanna see some video when you get it!!!
