Thanks, but I have not yet been appointed dictator of the club. It would have to be adopted by vote. Unfortunately, too many in the club are expecting a cartoon character holding a transmitter with a cartoon airplane buzzing around his head... sigh.

Oh well...

To my disappointment, at our last club meeting, the President and Vice President announced that they were going to arrange for t-shirts to be printed with the 'official' club logo (see below). They deemed my rendition as 'unaccepable' and 'inappropriate' as our club logo.

Isn't the 'official' logo lovely?

So here's an offer. I'll taylor the 'inappropriate' logo (found on post #1 of this thread) to any club's initials and club name and provide finished electronic art, in whatever formats requested, at no charge. It really only makes sense for a Virginia-based club (unless the cardinal is also the state bird elsewhere). I take a great deal of pride in my work and would hate to see my efforts wasted.

Just let me know and it's yours!

Well Im new here and what i post here is not to offend but to simply state how I feel as a new guy coming in and checking out your Flying Club. Ok now to the funny stuff, I think someone is really playing a practical joke, right? There is absolutely no way that a person could say that the LOGO presented was not representative of the Club. Or i could perhaps be wrong. I must say that the first thing I spot as a newbie is that the club LOGO that suppossedly won only represents the FIXED WING boys of the group. Is that what the club is all about? If so maybe that is not the club for me as I am a avid lover of both Helicopters and Planes. That is what that logo says. Was there any input from the group or just a few folks? When is your next meeting I would love to attend, and see the caught on camera practical joke(Blooper) caught on film. No seriously I am just giving my 10cents. Guess it is the nice thing of Forums. I did not know that Politics were so strong in the RC world also. Hey dont hate the messenger, I am just a person on the outside looking in. I thought it only right to give a view that maybe others are not looking at.

Nope! That is their (Pres and VP's) position on the subject. I am truly baffled.

Yet they did. It is a matter of expectations and lack of visual/conceptual sophistication. I got a few comments like, "How will anybody know we are an RC modeling club?" or "That makes us look like a bird watching club." Those from a vocal minority, not from the silent majority, many of whom were complimentary, but failed to step up when the time came.

Exactly!

No.

See above. Please don't let a dumb logo dissuade you from joining!

The meeting times/locations are on our Web site. There will be no cameras. And yes (counterproductive) politics are everywhere.

I'm not at all offended. In fact, I find your observations to be spot-on and consider your candor to be quite a compliment.

I am an award-winning graphic designer, graduated with honors from VCU's School of the Arts and have teamed with some of the most talented advertising and branding professionals in the world. Doesn't cary any weight whatsoever in this instance.

Another issue that tends to devalue my efforts in this situation is that my work was pro-bono, and offered rather than requested, which tends to diminish it's worth in the eyes of people who do not understand design or brand identity. In the real word, with organizations that truly appreciate the depth of process and experience of a good designer, clients requesting pro-bono work know better than to meddle in the process. Oh well.

Welcome to the Giants. Enjoy the community.

Slow...

I know exactly what your feeling right now.

I have spent HOURS and HOURS on a logo or a graphic only to have some numb skull point to a clip art picture and say,
if you could make it more like this.

UG.

The clip art logo they used SUCKS.
S-U-C-K-S.

Yours was very cool.
I always look at something and say.. would I wear that?
And the logo they chose I would say NO.

Thanks for the compliment! Coming from someone who slapped me around pretty hard upon my rather clumsy and opinionated entry to the Giant's community, that means a lot. I feel somewhat redeemed.

I've had something percolating for a while that may interest you. I kinda back-burnered it after not being satisfied with Snap's trailer design. I may try and make the Conn. Huckfest as a step to fix it. Will PM you at some point to share my thoughts.

I am deeply passionate about graphic design and have immersed myself in the FG culture here and IRL. This is a place where I could really stretch my creative wings, but as a viable vocation? TBD...

I'm with you on that, brother! It's the #1 reason I stepped up and offered an upgrade. I wanna represent, but not be embarrassed.

40 degree rainy crappy, not so good. Low overcast can be fun! Ever seen a 42% Compy disappear into the vapor in a vertical climb until the motor noise starts to dim, to be followed by the "whar... whar... whar... whar... of an invisible spin until it emerges from the cloud deck?

Very cool to watch! Tip o' the hat to Klank on that one (he learned it from Snap).

OTOH, get over it! Spring has sprung and flying season is here!!!
