Default Spektrum 9100 RX which packs?

Can anyone give any suggestions as to what battery packs to use with the new Spektrum AR9100?

I know Spektrum have LiPos for these RXs but are hard to find plus I gather there are alternatives out there aslo being 7.4v Lipos I gather you will need a regulator?

The servos I'll be using are JR 8711s (x6) which I heard of guys using Fromeco Li-Ion packs directly into the AR9100, but will that not shorten the life of the servos?

The other choice I heard about but have no experiance with is A123 packs?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

More importantly than a shortened life is the voided warranty when running unregulated li-ions or lipos.
Best setup, IMO, is dual A123's. They are extremely robust and have a higher C rating than even the best lipos. Also, a 2S pack has a nominal voltage around 6.6, so no regulators are needed. You do typically need an A123-capable charger, though, unless you go with the new Duralites. They are about the most expensive and are slightly heavier, but they have built in circuitry that allows you to use your li-ion/lipo charger.
Depending on your stance about field charging, you will need to choose the capacity accordingly. The advantage to the A123's is that they can push serious amps, while also maintaining good voltage, so you could technically run a single 2300mah pack on a 40%er. For redundancy's sake, I run dual A123 2300's on planes 100cc and up, and dual 1100's on 50cc and up. Below is a 42% qb 260 that I am running dual self-made A123 2300's. I burn 450-500mah per flight. so I am goof for 6-8 flights on a charge, although I just keep my batteries topped off all the time by field-charging.

Thanks bodywerks

I have 2 chargers that will suit, a Hyperion and a Swallow.

How did you find the EC3 connectors? I was planning to replace them with Deans connectors as I do a fair amount of electric flight and the Deans would make it easier to connect to my chargers.

The engine I'll be running is on a Wild Hare 35% Sukhoi which is a DA85.

Looking at these: http://www.booma-rc.com/default.aspx...categoryID=707

I gather the 2300s will be fine? (x2)

Also do A123 packs need to be balanced? I have seen A123 balancers on the net.

BTW love your setup man, very clean

A 2S A123 does not need to be balanced, but if you go with the Duralites, I think they balance themselves through the built-in circuitry.
The EC3 connectors are Horizon products. I leave my batteries connected at all times and just have a second lead coming off the battery for charging. It is just a standard servo connector plugged into an Ernst charge jack. I have a Fromeco Ioncube that has multiple output ports, so I just plug them all in at once and charge.
2x 2300's will be fine for 35% and up.

Royster I run the spektrum 6volt 4500 milliamp NMH designed specifically for that reciever in my 35% extra. I get 10 to 15 flights out of them before they need recharging. I have 8711s on everything but throttle. The set up works great.

I am running a single Fromeco A123 2300mah pack with my AR9100 in a H9 33% Sukhoi. It's awesome! For 35% and up I'd go with 2 packs.

They have a new card to slide into the unit that is setup for the nanophosphate batteries. Your original setup will not unless you get new card(s)

Fromeco Iron Corps Extreme packs are true A123 batteries. The regular iron corps packs are the same A123 chemistry, just as a 1200 mah pack with a lower amp rating.

The fromeco packs are genuine A123 packs and I am charging the packs with an ion cube which has the A123 cards.

Na, too much $, another failure point, more weight. I just charge after every flight - takes like 10 minutes.
