Here's the vid and pic... This is the first day the Extra 260 has been in the air. We checked the control surfaces & the ailerons were backwards... corrected that & flew the plane. Flew a helicopter and then got the 260 out for a second flight (like 15 minutes later.) On takeoff, the 260 does a roll and goes in. The plane is pretty totalled - all that's holding the nose on is the throttle pushrod. The Moki 180 needs a checkup too... pitts muffler... prop.... spinner....
On the crash site, everything works, but the ailerons are backwards. What the hell? How did that happen? So we change it in the DX-7, turn it off & back on... the DX-7 "forgot" the change to the ailerons! Check the vid - how is this happening? Horizon is getting a call tomorrow to see what is going on and what they will do. This is not good. The DX-7 has worked fine for over a year now and has 14 aircraft in memory. We have a "Warbird Night" a week from now at our club & this has several of them on it. It needs to work and be working 100% for sure! (note: the video file will need it's extension changed from ".avi" to ".mpg" for it to play. I had to re-name it to .avi so I could upload the file to FG. |

wow...no that is definitely not a good thing. Pretty scary if you ask me. I really hope Horizon takes care of this for their sake and your your warbird's sake.

Pre-flight routine.......before every flight.
Doesn't excuse the problem with the radio, but would have saved your plane

I hear you on the pre-flight. It would have saved it. What happened was most un-expected after just flying it 15 minutes ago with everything in the right direction.

After changing anything in your radio on a specific model you should always rebind it. It states this in the manual. If you didnt rebind that could explain it.
Sorry for your loss. I always when taxiing out on to the field I check my surfaces. Cheap insurance. |

To be honest...the damage doesn't look that bad. The rest of the airframe looks to be in pretty good shape yet. It shouldn't be too much of a problem to patch the nose back on. I've fixed planes that looked much much worse.
But that does suck about the Tx.....hope you get it figured out. Neo |

Helicopter was on a 8U radio. There's 14 models in the DX-7 memory & the same "loss of settings" occurred on other models as well. Voltage on the radio was 10.8V when the plane went in. Damage is more than it looks - it's a 180 sized plane (Seagull) and the ply is shattered in quite a few places.

Horizon Hobby call leaves me depressed. Rusty listened to the description & requested the radio be sent in. The radio has a 3 year warranty so they will stand behind the radio but most likely nothing else. Turn around time is about 5 days.. a few days to ship there... a few days back... so the warbird event is before the radio would be back.
The above is standard policy.... but there was nothing that cheered me up. No offer to swap the model memory to a different radio & get us going for the warbird night. Did not want to see video to see the issue and hurry up the turn around. I was hoping for a bit more "DA" style service here. Not even a "hey, that's terrible... sorry man!" about what happened. |

Second, have you ever dealt with DA? If so, what did they do for you that exceeded your expectations? Do you think that they would replace your plane if their engine stopped because you didn't have enough gas in the tank? JMHO, Chris
