Hey - the FedEx guy just showed up & I'm smiling. No new plane, but a new DX-7. (Just wish they would have transferred the models over to the new TX! 4 helicopters & 10 planes will take awhile to re-program in.)

Official word was "Inspected radio and found Chip to have an open causing partial writing of programming to memory. Replaced the system in the interest of customer service."

Thanks Horizon Hobby!

Roll out was good and I was about 10' in the air on my climb out and boom. Rolled right and here comes the ground. I have sent the TX and all 3 RX's into Horizon and am waiting for their prognosis. I have flown all these planes with JR for a while and thank goodness I kept the old stuff. I am skeptical about 2.4 now but I have a buddy that has flying his in IMAC for over a year with no problems.
Were any of these models using y-harnesses? If they are amplified y harnesses that is your issue. There has been an advisory about not using these on DSM. They were designed for Z-PCM almost 20 years ago. Standard y harnesses do not cause the issue. Hope that helps.

Cool. I understand the frustration of having to reprogram the aircraft. At least you will know the programming you are doing is staying in memory.......

The airplanes should go reasonably quick, but the helicopters take awhile to get tuned in right.

Can you post a link to the amplified Y-harness? Not that it was my issue, but I'd like to see what one is to know more about it.

Thanks
Terry

Here is a link to the article

The amplified harness has a noted bulge where the two wires split out of the harness as the "amp" is under the shrink wrap.

Here is a picture of one from the Horizon site.

As opposed to a standard harness that does not appear to have any electronics in the y.

Hope that helps.

Okay - it isn't the same as a "reversing" Y - where you can adjust the throw of one servo - great for one servo per elevator half.

RappyMan, I do not know the answer to that. When I started to use two servos for elevators I had a radio that had that function resident in the radio. The bulletin only mentions the old amped Y as causing a problem that is known. Perhaps a call to Horizon would get the answer. If someone does that, a post would be great. I have always tried to keep things as simple as I could. The only reason I knew about the amped y was because I used a couple back in the day when I had my first Z-PCM radios. There are still a couple laying around my shop but they have not been used in years. You ask I good question that I hope we find the answer to.

Yes the Pawnee had 2 standard harness. The GA used a Matchbox with it's own battery on the 4 Ailerons. The Rascal had flaperons so each had it's own channel.

Been flying the DX7 since it first came on the market. Read the manual and understood that ANY change to the progamming requires a re-bind. I check my planes out before going to the field, then once at the field gassed up ready to start the engine, I do a re-bind, making sure all receiver lights are correct, then fly. Never had any problems with the system.
