Hey guy's looking to get one of these two models, but not sure which one to get, im wanting to do some IMAC this next season of 2009 and wanting to get a couple of planes going so i figured i'd start my savings now and get in the right direction on which plane to get. Im mainly a 3D guy but like i mentioned earlier i want to give IMAC some time this next season, but i would like a plane thats good at both IMAC and 3D. And i would also like to know how much difference there would be between he two version's available being builder's kit and pre sheeted kits, how much time on either kit version's and how much work would have to go into the two kits? Thanks Guys!

I had the Dalton 260 for a few seasons and loved it. I've never flown the ML 300 but I can tell from videos it flies excellent. Both of them will 3D great. It comes down mostly to which one you like the looks of best. I fly mostly IMAC and if I had to pick between the two I'd build the ML 300. I like the look of a longer plane (longer from the TE of the wing to LE of stab) and the 300 fits that bill.

My two cents since I have built all three of Tony's planes and have flown them also. The 260 is a great all around IMAC and 3D plane. The standard 300 is a great start if your looking to get into IMAC(basic, intermidiate, sportsman). It's also good at 3D but some guys prefer the 260 for that. The MEL is pretty much a IMAC plane because how long it is. It will 3D but not very well do to how long it is. Alot of the builds I'm doing right now are the mel for IMAC and the 260 for 3D. E-mail me if you have any questions on either plane. Rob

Thanks guy's for all the input so far, im kinda looking towards the MEL Extra 300, I like the lines of the extra and seeing all the videos of it i think that would be a really good plane for me to both IMAC and 3D. Still looking for input though. Keep it up guy's! And thanks!!

Yeah.. what Rob said...
I have both the 260 and the ML300. My ML was set up only for IMAC and it absoutley excelled. As Rob said the 260 is really good at it all.

If you want a really good all around plane, then go with the 260 or the regular 300. The ML is really built for sequence work. I did so some minor 3d with it, but definitely preferred the 260... that thing is a 3D machine.
I would recommend the regular 300 for what you are looking to do. The main difference with the 260 and 300 is the canopy; the 300 canopy helps with the rudder/yaw authority in the sequence work. The ML300 is really like a giant 2M pattern plane. So, if you wanted a dedicated sequence plane... this would be it.

the ml is a giant pattern plane. it is much longer and therefore does NOT 3d as well. you can do some torque rolls and such but it will NOT come over the top anywhere near as good as the standard 300 or 260. my ml edition is being covered right now, when i first decided to go the dalton route, i talked to tony and let him know that i needed a terrific sequence plane and was not at all worried about 3d... he told me that the ml was the bird. and straigt from the owner's mouth..... he said it will NOT 3d as well. he didn't want me to purchase that particular plane if i was looking for a 3d machine.
after watching mattymatt's ml 300 draw lines in the sky i cannot wait to get mine up. that plane was as i stated before, a giant pattern plane. the nose is a little longer than regular and it really tracks like a pattern ship. the uplines look CORRECT!!!! it's amazing what the shape of a craft can do for the routine!!!!! man, you'll love any dalton product and their service and friendship is second to none. just my $.02 matt

Cool, thanks guys for the input so far, I believe i will be going with the MEL Extra for my beginners to IMAC and my freestyle plane. After watching the video's of Mark fly it i believe it will 3D perfectly fine with a lil bit of learning to take it a bit easy due to it not flipping as quickly as i'd like, i mean if i really don't like the way it 3D's i can always get a 260 or standard 300 for my freestyle plane at competition. But then it will be a couple weeks till i due place the order so i do have time to change my mind! haha
Thanks Kyle |

Have any of you guys flown the 35% 260 for 3D comparison. I know it is hard to compare a 35% to a 40%. I have a 40% 300 and I love it. After building the Dalton, arfs just aren't floating my boat anymore. I am just wondering how my 40% 300 would like a 35% brother

Nope. That was the 300. The ML is a bit long for the 3d stuff.

HUMMM...... I believe after having about a 3-4 hour conversation today with my builder, i will be going with the 42% 260!!! I think that will be the best for me at this time and will be THE plane i get, now just have to wait a couple more weeks to get some extra cash and will order this thing and start the build in September probably.
