Nice flying Antonio. Now let's see some DOD 3D!
That landing was awesome.

I'm also building one at the moment, will be my spare plane for competitions It'll have a ZDZ50NG in it (if I'm lucky, the engine will be here today) and probably a KS canister. Servo's; ailerons 645MG, elevators 625MG, rudder 5945MG

Greetz.

Alexzzz, this will be a nice setup for this model. One opinion... get the Xoar 3D 22x8 and you'll notice a big difference in power.

Have fun.

22*8, isn't that a little bit small? I want the rpm at +/- 6200

Not sure why you're looking for an RPM range that low, the ZDZ won't like being bogged down like that and will most likely overheat...

Remember that two stroke engines don't have a lot of torque and won't respond well to high loads at low RPM's.

I live at 4500' ASL and so we have to run smaller props than those at Sea Level, but my ZDZ-50NG is setup with Mejzlik 22x8's and spins in the 7100/7200 max RPM range. I've seen most guys who live at lower altitudes talk about running 23x8's on the 50cc size engines, but I certainly would look for more RPM that what you mention.

JMHO, YMMV....

Engine manufarturers advise 22x8 for at least 5 gallons. At least that's what my DL experts say.

Zeeb, I'm at a mile high altitude and after my engine runs the 5 gallons I will put a 23x8. I already saw friends using that prop and the engine behaves great with that. I advise 22x8 for until the engine has enough use and then a bigger prop.

Because you're higher than sea level you O2 quantities are lower and therefore a bigger prop will pull more. here usually I have to use bigger props and bigger engines then a setup I would choose at sea level.... just my 5 cents

Well you've got the right idea, but the wrong conclusion...

It's referred to as Density Altituded and is a combination of field elevation, ambient air temperature, barometric pressure and humidity. The full scale guys have to figure this all the time although most piston engine GA stuff relies on charts which give just the altitude variation as it is the largest, and then the temperature variations are second most important. The jet jockey's have to figure the DA for every takeoff because of reduced performance from both the engines and wings.

It is true that your props pull less and there is less lift from the wings as the air is thinner, but the MAJOR hit is engine performance. The full scale charts will tell you that a normally aspirated gas engine will lose about 25% of it's rated HP when operated at our altitude in the middle of the summer and you're higher than we are. A bigger prop with less HP to turn it is not the answer to your quest for more thrust.

Just like driving your car up into the mountains and the power drops off so the transmission downshifts, so must you by "downshifting" to a smaller prop and try to keep the RPM up.

Anybody is using Futaba S9150 servo for the elevator? If yes, anybody use them with A123 unregulated? They are supposed to be rated only for 4.8v? Let me know. Nice thread by the way!

Subscribed........just bought one....its still in its box under the building table. I had a spare DA 50 and needed a excuse to put it in something and I loved the looks of this plane. It should be a good backup IMAC airplane.

I guess it must be good at 6.6v because I maiden the plane today and it's still in one piece. ://www.vimeo.com/7229953
