Let us try to compare this engines... The ZDZ 40RE is 40cc with 4.25Hp, the other ZDZ 50 with 5.1Hp and the DL-50 with 5.2HP...

The 40cc might not be enough specially flying at high altitude, and between the ZDZ 50 and the DL you have more power (ok 0.1HP...) in the DL version. However the DL is cheaper then the ZDZ...

As Super08 says he has one with the same engine I want and it flies good. I guess I will try it and if it's not enough I'll be selling my airframe here any time soon...

Update:
I finish removing old paint and today I want to prime it and give it a nice white coat on the landing gear. I'll be cleaning and sanding the wheel pants today. I''ll post some pics later...
I was able, after 1hour of ironing, to remove those wrinkles on the fuselage. I did already bought Monokote Jet White covering and I'll be patching some areas this weekend too. I already got Tygon 3/32" ID a Du-Bro 24oz tank and a quick two way fueling system. As soon as I get the engine this baby should soon be up. I'm thinking late July early August....

Thanks for the opinions... keep them coming.

I had the World Models 80" Patty as well and I had a Moki 2.10 on the nose with a TME smoke system and it came out to around 13.5 lbs dry (according my bathroom scale) But I will say this, that Moki pulled the snot out of that plane and was no where near broken in!!! It flew great and landed great up until it went in due to a radio hit. It such a helpless feeling watching your airplane fly itself right in to a fence at WOT and not being able to do anything about it!! I did a build write up in a newsletter on it a few years back for a club I used to fly at. I will see if if I can find it and post the link if it is still available on the site.

That sucks so much.... I have a World Models Patty too and it's funny what you say regarding weight because When I grab both models they seem even. I might weigth them today and post differences. Did you rebuild the model or it was scrap??

I tried to build mine as light as possible and like I said it weighed 13.5 lbs dry according to my bathroom scale so it may not have been 100% accurate but thats all I had to weigh it with so thats what I stuck with and it certainly flew like it was 13lbs handled very light and floated in on landings like a kite. In fact on the first few flights I had to keep a high idel so the engine wouldn't flame out and if I wasn't careful the plane would keep flying past the runway and would have to make another approach.

I didn't rebuild the plane unfortunately because it was a total loss! I was about to go up for the 10th flight
and I taxied onto the runway and let it sit and idle for a few seconds to make sure my rate switches were on low. I heard my engine rpm start to raise and when I looked at my plane it went wot down the runway and made a hard left turn into the spectator/pits fence and pretty much turned into an explosion of balsa and ply upon impact with nothing much left to rebuild!
The prez of the club at that time was there and he had one of those Hobbico Freq. checkers and he turned it on after the crash and my channel was lit up like an X-Mas tree and he said it stayed lit up for at least an hour after I left and the strange thing was is that no one else at the field was on my channel when I was there that day. Anyway I picked up the pieces and luckily the radio gear and engine had survived except for the control board for the smoke pump which TME replaced for free!!
Instead of getting another WM Patty I got an H9 27%Extra 260 and flew that for a little while until I got tired of going through gallon after gallon after gallon of fuel in the Moki so I sold it and got into 50cc and up gassers.

BTW if your plane is coming in at the 16lbs mark your not going to be happy with the flight performance. Trust me when I say this, Extra's don't fly well when they are too heavy for the wing loading, They like to get tip stall happy especially with that short 79-80" wing span!! In fact pretty much any airplane will not fly well when over weight. Try to get your plane as light as possible!!! I.E. around the 13 to 14lb mark if possible You'll be glad you did!

I tried to find the build write up I did for an old club newsletter back in 2005 but they changed their site and they don't have the archived newsletters anymore.

Hey, get the DL-550cc. It is not too much engine! If needed you can create an TX end point and then vary as needed. As far as the weight goes, the difference is not much!
As for smoke, don't apply because you can ruin the Monokote into wood and won't stick anymore. Although it looks pretty leave it for a fiber model

Hi guys, a quick update....

I got the LG stripped, sanded and clean. Got a primer in it and a flat white coat in it. I was thinking on give it a shiny look with a vernice but tehre's no point.

I started working on the wheels pant and there's not so much work there as I thought. I did remove some stickers and the "glue" part stayed behind. Any ideas how to remove those without hurting the fiber part?

I'll post some pictures later.

Thanks for the help guys.

Try some WD-40, let it soak in and then it should wipe off.

be sure that you use a good degreaser (PPG makes a really good one) and wipe the pants down really well before applying paint. The WD 40 can penetrate into any cracks /pores in the top coat of paint and give you a headache later on.

Automotive break cleaner works well, just make sure you're in a well ventilated room.
