Antonio,
sounds good on the maiden. Let me know. You will probably have to try and remove that plywood mount and glue a new one in there. That shouldn't be too hard, just a pain in the rear.

Yup that mount looks like swiss cheese. Your rebuild is coming along nicely though. Don't worry about the maiden, she's a very easy plane to fly, no bad handling flaws that I have found yet. It's a piece of cake to land too.

Hi guys,

here's some updates. I did remove the engine mount and here how it looks. I'm going now to buy some good wood and fix that mount.

The wheel pants are not perfect but they look better at least...

A damaged kit by UPS turned out to be a godsend for me. My first kit was damaged in shipping, a small hole in the top of the right wing and a small crack in the bottom of the fuselage at the front. Both easily repaired. Tower filed a claim with UPS and sent me a new kit. When UPS was finished with the claim they didn't want the kit and neither did Tower as it costs too much to ship it back because of where I live. So I ended up with a complete second kit for a spare. If I ever crash or if anything happens to it I have a complete 2nd kit to draw from.

Super08, can you send me a copy of the front mount plate? maybe a drawing with dimensions, a photo maybe... You don't have an extra cowling you would like to sell do you?

Thanks

Thank you for the wheel pants comment....
I really hope I'm on the right path for that firewall... I bought 4ftx4ft strong plywood yesterday and some round oak to line-up and insure linkage between wood layers. now I'll cut the dimensions needed and then start planning on how to glue and assemble everything. More work ahead of me...

Thanks for the help and support guys

Ok guys... update.

Engine DL-50cc, pitts muffler, Vess 22A and accessories are here and ready to apply.

I just glued this afternoon the firewall and give the final touches this evening. I'm waiting for a PCM receiver because of a good experienced friend advice.

Tomorrow I should be able to sand any epoxy excess, vernish the exterior of the new plywood and let it dry.

Check in the picture the way I insured that the epoxy would by gravity fullfill those blind spots... I think I got it pretty glued... First I coated with a fair amount of epoxy and micro ballons the original existant firewall and then put my new firewall there. Clamp it and let it dry all afternoon. I used 60m epoxy.
At the evening I replace the paper tape and filled the front gaps between the sides from teh original motor mount and the new firewall. I still used 60m epoxy and micro ballons.

Can't wait to see if it worked... Hope so.

Usually those workout machines turn out to be a $3,000.00 towel rack. Good to see you found another use for it!

Man that pic looks familiar, I did something similar when mounting my DA-100 on my Edge.

That piece of equipment is not mine... I wouldn't buy anything like that but it doesn't mean I cannot use it for my own stuff. It does not hurt it

I had to look for a while to find the DL-50cc engine template but I found it. I measured the airplane firewall and connect them both. Here's the result... Hopefully this will be handy when someone wants to drill i the right stpos... I sure do...

Today when I remove the engine from the box I noted that the standard muffler has a huge ding. Nothing major but this was brand new... The worst part is that I recycled the box it came in and now I cannot complain to USPS... This sucks...

Contact the place you got the engine from and see if they will exchange it.

ok... check how the new firewall trun out... At least better then what it was. Now I only hope that after I drill for the engine mounts I don't find out that I'm short on the cowling. If so I'll have to build some wood spacers to increase distance... hopefully not...

I did cut that template sheet I made yestarday and tested it and it's looking pretty good. Hopefully today I'll drill those holes and find out what's going to happen next.

I would like and idea from you guys... I need to decide about batteries... I was thinking Li-Po due to the weight and capacity but I would have to use BEC's and then why not use normal Ni-MH or Ni-Cad? A good friend was telling me at least to use 2000 range for the receiver and 1500 for the ignition, if using Ni-** or something, Li-Po's around 7amp of current capacity. Any ideas what to get exactly?

Thanks guys
