Default Use of Gorilla Glue on Robart Hinges?

Ok
Anyone used Gorilla glue on Robart hinges? Give me all the details please, I don't want to screw up a new plane. I read on thier web site you have to clamp due to the expansion properties of the glue, is this the case with models? I also see you dust the glued parts with water to help activate the glue. Is this method used or is there enough humidity in the air to let the glue just cure?

I am building a 33% Lanier Edge and the hinges provided are cheesy. The Robarts I purchased are the same size and fill the holes nicely. I have never used this process before so I am hesitant without info.

Also do you glue one half at a time or glue both say, the stab and the elevator and place them together to dry? I would think due to the nature of these hinges being round you would want to install the flight control to align all the hinges.

Thanks in advance

Not sure if I would use the gorrilla glue on the hinges. I use plane old epoxy with a little bit of milled fiberglass mixed in.

Gorilla glue works great for hinges. The expansion really locks the Robarts in. Here is a link to a complete tutorial, and video, on installing Robart Hinges using Gorilla Glue. I have followed this method, and it works perfectly. Good Luck!

Why the milled fiberglass? What does that do for you? I have been using just straight epoxy.

I use it and like it but there are some things to help you with the process.1) put a dab of grease into the Robart hing joint. 2) put a dab of Gorilla into the hole, don't fill it up just a small amount into the hole.3) put a dab of Gorilla glue on one half of the Robart Hinge and put it into the hole, wipe and glue that comes out.4) line up all the Robart Hinges on one surface, all at the same hight and all in a straight line.5) no water is necessary for humid location. 6) let the Gorilla set up, it will come up and out of the hole. You can wipe it off while its still soft. Most of the glue will finish its foaming stage within one hour. IF you let it foam up and dry you can then cut it off, its the same as cutting foam.7) after one side is dry, test all the action of the Robart Hinges and make sure they move freely. If you have a bad one now is the time to drill it out and replace it with a new one.8) do the other side of the surface following the same steps.Or you can use RC-56 and not worry about the foaming action. But I use the Gorilla.

The milled glass will act as a "shear binder" so you are not relying on the resin exclusively for strength between the hinge and the material that you are gluing to.
I've done it both ways and used the gorilla glue also, all methods seem to work perfectly fine, it all boils down to personal prefference...

Sumo works good too. A little faster and a little less foam. I use 'em both.
