You can see that I saved 4 ounces just by using a different engine-mounting method!
I didn't get any 'before' pics of the fuse, but basically all the holes from the front fuse former, forward, were not there originally. IMO, it was WAY over0built up front, especially if you have seen how people are lightening up Cardens in the engine box area... I removed the plywood flooring where the tank and ignition would have gone and later replaced it with 1/16" lightweight balsa (added back about 8-10 grams). I also removed the rudder servo tray and radio equipment tray, and the cross-beam right behind the wing tube (I went with a CG-mounted tank, so it had to go. There are before and after shots of the fuse weight there also - shaved over 3/4lb. in the fuse. Here, I went with CF gear - the Yak already has CF gear, but this shows the lengths I went to - I even lightened the CF gear! I also lightened the gear cover, nixed the gear cuffs, and went with PSP titanium axles. |

I also lightened the hatch. In the 'before' pics, you can see where I took a pen to it - that is where I dremeled to or cut through. The after pic gives you a better idea. I only dropped about 5 ounces, but it's 5 ounces nonetheless.

And the 'semi' final install (I added 1/32" balsa over my lightening holes up front to reduce airflow into the fuse, and I moved my satellite receivers around a bit), and final weight, less pilot and two pieces of velcro...

If not, so long as you are near sea level, you will be totally fine - this plane has tons of wing area to support the weight, and if you only plan on 3ding it, then you won't need much power anyway - a 150 on pipes can hover a 43 pound plane in its sleep. |

I don't pay myself so I don't have time for me. ![]() I only have one customer, he keeps me busy. H9 sukhoi DA 85, Comp Arf Lightning P-180, Airworld FW-190(moki 250 radial), CA 2.6 Extra 260/DA85 piped/ ZN Madness Electric/ Hanger 9 Ultra stick evo 26. This was the last six months. I still have not painted the FW-190. I also have a Comp Arf Eurosport waiting and an Ultra lightning that will be here by Labor day. The Ultra Lightning is for me . Shoot, you're practically below sea level! You should be fine - Sportsman is no problem.
Tony, get the tuned silencer for that Evolution 26! My dad put one on a 12 pound Tiger 120 and it has out of site vertical and will hover no problem - I am quite impressed with that little engine! |

I take the 8711s are preferable to 5955s? how do the JRs wear compared to the titanium gears?
are they OK on 6.5 volts. Here in the UK all JR stuff is only rated at 4.8 and my experience of the 8611 and 8611a was they developed slop quickly also suffered from oscilations around centre point after a few hours, could fix this by resetting subtrim but not very clever. Whereas the 5955s although not as powerful as advertised have proved to be much more reliable. What do you reckon? As for weight of the aw yak the new 170 would take care of this would it not? I followed bodywerks example with my aw 260 extra with a da 85 plus the new greves pipe and got the weight down a lot so it may be possible to take some excess out of the big yak also. cheers |

I have had my hitecs for almost three years now and notice only a little slop in the rudder since I only have two servos driving the rudder. Ailerons and elevators seem to be okay. I really want to try out the 8711s in my QQ Yak. I have had some bad blow back in my ailerons but just notice the other day I had a bad servo wire going into the RX. I need to fly it again to see if that is the problem.

What would be the best pipes to run on this airplane with a DA 150 and where would I get them. I am also wondering would the headers I have now for my Dalton work for the aero works plane and the pipes. Currently I am running headers with mtw canisters.
