I'm somewhat surprised that not a word has been spoken about the wing blowing off in flight on Carlos Vargas Hernandez's Aeroworks plane. He did do a good job of keeping it away from the crowd. Thought we where going to see another Bill Himple one wing landing... hehe

It will fly!!!

On Franks plane the stab came off due to loss of the retaining screws. Carlos did great when he lost the wing, the CF wing tube broke at the fuse.

Thanks for the update Wiz... It's sad when one goes in for a mechanical problem rather than pushing the envelope.... Hey it was great meeting you, Craven and Sleepy at the FG booth Saturday morning...!!!!

Wow, the entire event was a blast again this year. Frank, crew and esp. pilots put on one heck of a great show. The Saturday evening flying, fireworks and fellowship alone was off the hook. The guys made the night show look sick! Terry's fireworks idea was really cool. The GTO guys added a lot to the event for sure. Got to say, Cardens can take a beating!
I liked the night fly and team additions this year, they added more "fun" to an already fun event. The large fireworks display was a nice touch as well. Will B. |

Terry Hahn and crew were insane. I love that guy. To beat them in the night competition next year, you would need to include a tank, a blow torch, and I think an Atom bomb. I have officially re-named Terry.... He is now: Terry "Full ON" Hahn... He never gives anything below 125%, and him and his entire team are all straight up good dudes. Congrats Terry!

The team event was really fun to watch too. I have pictures of the choppers, in flight, that look like the two choppers are morphing into something out of a science fiction movie. It was good to meet you at the event Sleepy. Man you worked your butt off!
I will be giving PitViper a DVD of all the pictures I took. Thanks for letting us hang out with you guys! |

I looked at Frank's plane and the retaining bolts were still in. It looked as if the tabs broke, maybe he will weigh in here and give the details. There is usually more going on than meets the eye. But before anyone starts knocking the GP Extra there were at least 3 others at the XFC this past weekend having the crap flown out of them and they held up fine.
I do want to thank the entire XFC committee, they put a ton of work into this year's event and some folks want to bash have things their way. But, I think they did an awesome job and hope they can at least equal it next year. I also want to add I thought the judging reflected the flying at least in the airplane competition. I cannot comment on heli's because I know nothing about their maneuvers. Jeff Williams

Marians avitar looks like she has a really wide foot!
Thanks Marian and to all the heli/airplane judges that sat out there in the sun to give us results for three days. No one should complain that wasn`t there. These guys all fly well and I wouldn`t want to be the one to decide who was best. I also ran for cover any time Terry Hahn flew. That guy is Mr. Enthusiasm! If you really want a scare, judge the team event sometime, right Marian? Bill |

Wow! That was a fun weekend!!! All the guys running the show did a great job and kept things running smoothly and all the competitors/crews were just plain great people.
Hey SleepyC, hmm... I already have some ideas for the fireworks next year! Looks like I'm going to have to buy somebooks on fireworks. heh heh !!! After the night flight, Mr mouth of the south himself told us that that was the most gosh darn amazing thing he had ever seen and he goes to all of the shows, so that kinda stuff makes it all worth it. Hahahahahaaaa I am still laughing after our night flight!!! I finally got to see the video and wow is all I can say!!! I"m curious how Terry would of done with his primary airplane. The 35% flies very different than his 40%, but the engine on the 40% would not run right and he didn't trust it. Safer to go with the one that runs good when you are pushing the envelope. Far too much fun overall!!!!! GTO Darrin Last edited by cashxdr; 06-16-2008 at 04:04 PM. |

Hehehehehehehe..... That was WAY too much fun. By far the most fun I've ever had at any contest or event, ever!
This was also the only time I've ever heard the crowd yelling while I was concentrating and focused on flying. I also want to give a shout out to all the people that ran the event and all the other pilots out there. Especially the new guys that showed up. They all did a great job and were fun to hang out with even though I know they were nervous as heck. I know how nervous I was the first time. And also the veteran XFC'ers who offered all their help when I had my various ordeals... It was very much appreciated! I would've felt horrible if I would have done something like that to someone else's plane though. Not to mention I couldn't pay for it heh...
