Default DA-85 on EF 50CC Extra 300 , Stupid ?

Ok so I have access to a DA-85 and I am building my second EF 50CC Extra 300 is a 85 in this airframe to rediculious ?

The way I figure thrust to weight will be 3:1. I was maybe going to use a 3 blade 24 x 10 prop to tame the torque.

Basically I need input this is getting into wing loading and airframe stress, so how bout it ? Anyone done it in a 18 - 19 lbs aircraft, how'd it work out still in 1 piece ?

Ok dudes forget it I just read the Lanier Edge 540 & DA 85 thread, this seems like a really bad idea. I'm just going to throw a tuned pipe on my DA-50, dont need a "pogo stick" for an airplane.

yea I was tossing around the MTW RE-2 / KS 1060 or ES Comp CF pipe. I have seen a lot of stuf recently about probs with the CF pipes so I think its either MTW or KS just have to choose which one.

Crash & Burn, I have put my DA-85 in a Comp Arf 2.3 Extra, 90" ws. It was designed around the Da-50 motor. My weight came out at 20lbs40z. I have been flying it most of this summer HARD with no structural problems or issues. I am concious of my throttle though and can tell you at wide open throttle it IS fast. I am not familliar with how the wood structure is on the EF extra, but I did significant mods to the c-arf up front to hold it on. Allthough its alot of fun, i can say i did it, been there, but i would probably not do it again. I just wanted something with ballistic performance, and that it is, but it is really sensitive on the throttle. One click of throttle goes from hover to climb out. I played with throttle curves and that helped, but like i said its a hand full just keeping the foreward speed down.....Gene

YES that is stupid we have a 33% SD Yak with the DA 85 in it, and at 22lbs ready to fly that plane borders on the stupid side. That engine lends itself nicely to a 35% airframe,in a 30% airframe you will have awesome power but no enjoyment in flying, unless you like flying guided missles. my $.02

i have to admit with the power of the 85 DA on my 33% cap i wished my other 4 gas motors on various planes of various sizes had this kind of power . My cap is 21.5 lbs being flown on a pitts and 26B. the 26A was actual faster on up lines as it just kept picking up mach speed and the B is no slouch......

The DA-85 also vibrates more than a DA-50, so your Extra might end up in kit form (read box of sticks) from the vibration alone.
