As some of you may already have heard, Bobby Richardson, our Contest Director for this contest, passed away this morning.
Bobby was an unstoppable force of nature when he applied his enthusiasm for model airplanes to such an event as this contest. If you attended his contest last year, you experienced how much preparation and hard work he personally put into making sure that everyone there had a good time. It is difficult to conceive that we will have the heart to go through with this contest in his absence. However, the club members are certain that Bobby would be extremely disappointed if we did not see this through for his sake. The contest is still on. The expansive barbecue dinner he planned for Saturday night is already being prepared. The new club field that he worked so hard to have ready is waiting for us. We will be there to fly in Bobby's honor. I think is is more than appropriate that this contest be now named in his remembrance as it will be in the years to come. If you look at the attached photo, Bobby is at the top right next to the contest banner. I'm sure that if you met him you would remember his enthisiasm for IMAC and his joy at hosting this contest. So please come if you plan to be there. We will do our best to make him proud. Chris Tomberlin

Bobby was one of the nicest guys I ever met in the RC community. He always had a nice thing to say, no matter what the situation, but also was a fierce competitor. He will be sadly missed at every Southeast contest from now on. He loved our sport and I to believe he would say “Heck yea, you guys go ahead and fly”. I wish I could be there this weekend. God bless him and his family.

Sorry for your clubs loss. If I was in that region (and not in the middle of a move as well) I would help the contest out as a fellow CD.
Life is short......fly for fun!

The notice of Bobby's death is unbelievable to me! We have just brushed arms at the Joe Nall and Bobby was so full of life. Wish we could make the contest. Bobby will be truly missed!

So sad and shocking! Our prayers go out for his family in this time of grief. Bobby always tried to please everyone and to make sure they had a wonderful time at his contest. I never heard him utter a harsh word about anyone. He always had a positive attitude and and always will be remembered as a REAL GENTLE-MAN !

I just saw the notice on the IMAC web site and am very sad to hear about Bobby.
My prayers are with his family. Here are a couple of pictures that my brother-in-law took at the Griffin contest at the end of March. Mark |
