for the 33% SD yak with the DA 85, which exhaust are you using?

will a can (KS 95) fit or are you limited to a pitts muffler?

thanks

Well if you're building it, you could probably do another Carden like the 43% 300 or 260 and put an 85 on it. LOL Or maybe even that 80%er . . .

Seth
No kidding guys, the 260 or the 540 with an 85 could be around 21 to 22 lbs. real easy, and what a great 3D toy would they make!

i gotta echo the EF 110" yak... that plane looks like a 40%er in the air and i have seen teh 85 on greeves pull it like it was stolen! big and light and ready for anything! VERY well built arf as well. these planes are worth more than you have to pay for them! just my $.02.

If its 3d your looking for, or for that matter IMAC also, dont forget about PAU's edge 540 36%. Theres a vid showing it fly with a DA 85 at about 24.5 lbs. Looks as if the 85 pulls it around really good and with 2200sq for wing loading should float like a feather. Another option for you.

I just maidened my H9 35% 260 with an 85/Greeves. Although I had to do some "re-engineering" to get the pipe in and get it to balance it is a fantastic combo! Flew amazingly well straight off the workbench

i dont understand????? why get a plane that has to have a 300.00 or more pipe system for it to work when for the same money you get a 100?? with way less vibration, or get a plane that you dont need to have a pipe system for. i just went through this problem exactly. i called EF and asked if in fact the 85 would be enough to 3-d this plane (without a pipe) and was told NO. so why push the motor balls to the wall all the time when its not ment to be??? help me to understand this by the way i ended up with the hangar-9 33% sukhoi for my 85 on pitts.

the dietrich 260 75cc size would be a blast with the 85 on reg muffler.

I agree. You spend the same money for a smaller engine and a tuned pipe setup. Also, it adds up to weigh about the same as a two-cylinder, and it has less torque. Help me understand..

So who needs a pipe to fly an 85 on a 35%?

I disagree. You spend less money (bout 200, even more compared to a 3w106cs) for a smaller engine and a tuned pipe setup. Also, it adds up to weigh less then a two-cylinder, yes it has less torque, but still manages to beat a 106 cs with stock exhaust in a vertical drag race handily
(mind you this may be apples to oranges -aw 260 against a comp arf yak 55), and is waaay quieter. i went with this setup just based on cost. so far been pretty happy.

Yeah I have flown a PAU Edge 36% on a DA-85 with a standard muffler and it did great. Granted the one I flew with a DA-100 had more power but an 85 doesn't really need a pipe to do well on many of the machines available today.

After running an 85 with a 1090 and then switching to a DA-100 in the same plane in my opinion there is no reason to go the 85/pipe route. I really don't feel that the piped 85 was any quieter than the 100 with standard mufflers. Some may not believe that but that is the way it seemed to me. The difference in cost was $150 more for the 100. The 100 weighed 3 ounces more total. I was turning the exact same rpm with the two setups with the same prop. This was with a new 100. The main difference though is that the 100 does not show any signs of slowing down on an upline. I could not say that about the 85. Also, again in my opinion. There is no chance what so ever that a DA-85 could touch a 106 cs in any line up down or what ever. The difference in the all around smoothness makes the 100 an easy choice.
