Well you could always go to the flying field with the nose hanging out the back of the truck My flying buddy took one to the field last week in the back of an open pickup. He said he had a lot of crazy looks as he went down the road. Let me know when you get back in town so we can get together.

Have you flown a 106?

I have flown both a 3W 106 and a DA 85 and I can tell you what Seth said is very true.

Disclaimer: I'm not trying to call anyone out, just saying it how I see it.
According to my scale this is what I got. If the bare motor weighs 4 lbs, then 1.15 lbs of header, pipe, coupler, and clamps seems reasonable to me. The Greeves is a super light pipe.

I'll see if I can break out my scale again to double check.

Just checked the pipe/coupler/clamps, weighs exactly 0.75 lbs. 3/4 of a pound. Weighed the motor/header - 4.5 lbs, or 4 1/2 pounds. Totals 5.25 lbs. The first measurement was 0.10 lbs off.

That's cool. I'm still gonna stick to my two-cylinders... I like torque.

If the pipe is as light as you said it is, sounds about right to me. I wasn't trying to call you out earlier, but it just sounded too light.

Well 5.25 pounds, add the ignition weight and the 3W 106 is 6 pounds WITH ignitoon so weight savings are not significant. At least to me.

Vic is that 6 pounds with some type of muffler/pipe system or just the engine and igntion?
Bottom line is you save a bunch of weight going with the 85.
Back on subject I have the 75cc Aeroworks Extra 260 with a DA85/ slimeline muffler and it is a missle. Don't ask how much it weighs because I have never weighed it. It flys very well and I'm very picky. Jason Noll build a 35% AW 260 with the DA 85/ Greeves pipe combo for the Tuscon Free. That airplane is hands down the most fun flying 35% I've had my hands on.
Seth's Python looks that way to me also. Power to weight is one thing. Wing loading is what makes these airplanes fly so good. DA 85 opens up a ton of options with many of the current airplanes allready on the market.

That's awesome. Its great that we have motor choices to fit our budget/style/needs. I'll still stick to my 2-cylinders..

No, not a problem. Just since you said it seemed off, I thought I would just weigh it again to make sure my measurements were right. No worries!

Just as Big Bird said, the lighter the plane is, the better it flies, just like the indoor foamy stuff. Even if you only save 3/4 of a pound, thats still quite a bit on a 35% airplane.

Just my personal opinion.

Seth,
I certainly agree that weight is the most important factor for 3D. The Greeves pipe seems to be a lot lighter than the 1090. As I said earlier, my 85/1090 setup was only 3 or 4 oz. lighter than the 100 setup. I would much rather have the ease of the 100 with mufflers than worry about the 4 oz. With the airframe I have 4 oz. doesn't matter to me. Like Vic said, it is great to have as many choices as we do.

Exactly. I would rather save weight somewhere else than the motor. I can't notice 4 extra ounces in a 35%. I can notice them if you shift them CG-wise, but not if the CG's the same.
