Default Lanier Extra 330 and G62

Guys - I have a Lanier Extra 330 with a DA50 that flies OK but really lacks power or "zip". I think the plane would be better with a larger engine. It is my backup IMAC plane for Basic so it does need unlimited vertical. It does OK with the DA50 but I am thinking of swapping out the DA50 for a G62 that I have sitting here looking for a home. The G62 was converted to electronic ignition by Ralph C in Arizona so it is lightened compared with the standard magneto version.

Just wondering if anyone has experience with an electronic ignition G62 in either the Lanier Extra 330 or Edge ? I know that a ZDZ 70 or someting like that would be better / lighter etc, but I have the G62 sitting here looking for a home and I am wondering if it would be as good power wise as the DA50 just for general flying around and general aerobatics ?

Thanks for any feedback

Bill,

I have a g62 on igniton that I had Mike help me convert. I refuse to sell it because I know I will have it in another airplane soon. The motor has tons of power and would be an excellent choice for your Lanier IMHO.

The power difference between a good running Da-50R and a Z-62 will be marginal at best. I'm assuming you're talking about the 87" Extra from Lanier. If so, they fly good on a 50cc and are insane with a ZDZ 60 or Brilelli 366gt. Zenoahs run great, they're just not power houses.

Ralph - I think I will give it a try so I can liberate the DA50 for another smaller, slightly lighter plane. The G62 needs a home and I think I will see how it pulls the Lanier Extra - might need a larger prop ie 23-8 or 24-8 or something like that. I think the G62 can turn the larger prop easily whereas a 24 inch prop would be too much for the DA50.

You are quite right and I expect that the difference will be marginal. As I just mentioned to Ralph, if I make the switch it will be to liberate the DA50 for a smaller lighter plane ie I have a DA50 in an AW Extra 260 which is slightly smaller than the Lanier 87 inch Extra. In the 50 cc AW Extra the DA50 flies it very well, whereas it is marginal in the Lanier. You are right that the Zenoahs are not necessarily powerhouses, but a Ralph converted G62 might be a stump puller if it was propped right.
