I gotta agree with Vic, that the QQ 120" Yak is NOT a "years-proven" aircraft, just because it is "based" on the 3W design - the 3W Yak is all composite, for one, lighter, and there are differences in the two designs. I am sure that anyone that had an opportunity to fly both, side by side, would choose the 3W hands down.

Just so you don't give out wrong information out there. 3W Yak is Quique's design. It is QQ's drawings that is manufactured by 3W! It is not all composite, it is composite fuse. Quique's all built up aircraft is the same design except has built up fuse and not foam core wings with slight change in the nose of the aircraft to balance with DA170. Before any of you knew about DA170, QQ was aware of it and hence the longer engine box to balance with lighter engine!

QQ and his father did make number of changes to AW Extra to get it contest ready! That aircraft was not in anyways contest ready in the form they received it back then! I don't want to go in more details here!

I am sure if price is not an object for someone a composite fuse plane is better than built-up but one should justify the $3000 difference. 3W should've stopped the production of QQ Yak long time ago when things didn't work out between them or they had to pay for the design they received from QQ! Enough said!

I knew the 3W Yak is QQ's design. I figured everyone knew this - it's pretty easy to tell a Quique inspired/designed airframe. Usually you just have to look at the airfoil of the wing and position of the stab...
I also knew that Quique had a big part in making the Aeroworks 300L a contest worthy design. A lot of people might not have known that, I guess, but it can be seen in the plane of that time, again in the lower stab positioning. There is no doubt that Quique is a genius when it comes to designing an airplane. I just think the manufacturer he has building his planes need to up the quality a few notches, and make the plane more "ARF". Not saying the hinges need to be done (even though that is the suckiest part of building any plane), but why not have the wing alignment dowels pre-installed, the cowl mount supports preassembled/installed, cowl ready to install, wheelpants ready to install, control rods preinstalled, etc., to keep up with the trend of having all of the monotonous parts of assembling an ARF already done for you?

"More ARF", don't you mean more RTF? Some people still enjoy the ARF process of putting a plane together, not to mention keeping manufacturing cost down so we get other goodies like carbon gear and tubes.

I'm glad Reza got you guys strait. We are lucky to have QQ around who understands that the working stiff appreciates making ARF's affordable, and in more than one scheme.

Quique had no part in the AW Ultimate project that Chip Hyde won the TOC with. Bob Godfrey designed the Ultimate years ago and his planes competed at the TOC also, Chip Hyde is the only person to win the TOC with a bipe, an AW plane. Ok I'm done here, I see this has turned into an arguement more than a poll. Happy Landings! BTW bodywerks thanks for confirming what I stated.

Where does Bodywerks say that QQ designed the Ultimate? Chip was not the only person to win the TOC with a bipe, ask Rojo.

Did Bob Godfrey design the bipe that Merle Hyde built? I have never heard that. Chip and his bipe were the genesis of the AW bipe, I think that part is common knowledge.

As stated I'm done here, this horse has been rode to death! I just stated what I knew, sure some things are common knowledge but not to all. Bob Godfrey was a great man and designer in this hobby and deserves all the credit that has ever been given to him. Sorry if I offended anyone here, I'll be the first to say that I don't know everything, just looking to have fun in the hobby. God Bless all.
