today I worked on the firewall which , as you can imagine, is quite a bit different running a turbo prop engine.

The pictures show the firewall in place but not glued yet as I want to measure at least 5 times

Its a landing gear from another airplane from a kit so its 6061, if it was 2024, I could have one much thinner which means lighter and more springy for a suspension.

Never will I have a carbon gear...

Hi Roger, Just curious, Why so much right offset? is the prop going to be turning more than 7000 rpm?

Hi Jack,
the picture was taken before I redid the firewall with less offset, I beleive the prop will turn about 6000

Things are moving a bit slow at this time, still waiting for material. In the meantime, I made hatch for the aft end of the engine compartment , which departing at bit from the plans.

What happened to not using right thrust and off setting the rudder?

I was highly recomended not to do so, so I am going with the engine offset

In full size airplanes, one comes to mind with a fin offset , which is the P-51 Mutsang. But then again , look at those paddles up front...

No sure if I understand the question properly but if you mean the hatch in front of the canopy hatch, which normaly is the cowling. I have to design a totally different cowling because of the type of engine so I decided to replace the front part of the cowling with this hatch to have access to the turbine portion, such as glow plug.

I now have to work on the bottom and the front of the engine compartment

I just found this thread. Very interesting.
I won't be doing a turboprop anytime soone, but am interested in the
wing construction. I am going to be building a 30% Yak 54, and might
be interested in using this method for the wings.
I noticed there is not much detailing on the leading edge , trailing edge, or
hinging construction. Is that because you are still waiting on materials?

I do have some questions, that probably will reflect my ignorance.
I have not found the extruded foam to be super rigid. It seems like it
might be easy to build a wing that is out of alignment. How do you guarantee a straight wing? How do you set up the templates on each end to insure accuracy?
Do the wing skins glue well to the foam?
Is ther a significant weight savings with this method?
I don't want to hijack this thread with questions about the construction.
Is there somewhere that might have more info on this method?
