What some see as good performance in model airplane gassers - others see as un acceptable - the results we all get are very subjective .
The old Kioritz and other converted industrials are not enigine I like - too heavy and must run at high rpm to run efficiently. It is what they were designed to do- the exhaust setups I saw on them -were either incredibly loud or incredibly heavy and very restrictive.
But- for some fliers- these are just fine -
My point in butting in- (which I shouldnot have done ) is that the setup really is not a good fix for the real problem (my opinion).

Having done really quiet setups which were still very powerful- I have a different take on th issues involed.

Personally I find the sound of a screaming .46 engine more annoying than that of a 100 cc gasser, why, different frequency levels. Truth be known lower frequencies travel farther with a higher sound pressure level than higher frequencies, that is why it is important for guys flying large scale planes to quiet them down as much as possible, otherwise you can hear them a greater distance from the field. Most of the problems arise when you try to muffle an engine, you can also reduce it's performance. You want to reduce the noise of an engine WITHOUT affecting it's performance and/or find the happy medium between the two. Clubs that lose their fields to noise are always unfortunate but if you have a set of guidelines and adhere to them, you should be okay.

Now what I want to know is when did you become such an expert on muffling and quieting airplane engines when the largest plane anyone has ever seen you fly is a 60 sized ARF? Yes some of the technology of motor bikes may in fact spill over to model aircraft, but before you claim yourself as an expert don't you think it would be wise to have at least flown a plane with one of your experimental mufflers?

good try Brian, I see you edited your orginal post to change it from President to Vice President, you can see that in the quote from my posting. Just goes to show your character pal. Oh and another thing, can you explain to the rest of the RC world in your own weird and wonderful way....what does being Vice President or President of a flying club have anything to do with that was said in the post?

This just came about last week the machine was demoed at Gill's store and I was there to seeit you probably didn't know but I suffered a spinal cord injury last month and just had surgery on June11th were looking at possibly starting up this business as the doc's don't think I should go back to my sheet metal trade so if I have enough interest were thinking of buying one of these machines so I can work from home if I can make a living at it
