Default Great day of thermals

seems like theres always a few guests lurking this forum i helped get started, sure would like to see more activity.. iv been soaked up in flying my gasser, but i always go back to my roots, a new club memeber here is big into the gliders and i got the chnace to fly his electric glider and man did we find some thermals! i think each run we both took we ran motor for 2 minits and gained or maintianed altitude for 10+ minits, the hunt for lift was fun and has brung back my glider bugs.. looks like im gonna dust off the gliders now.. now i just hope they fit in my jeep with the 50ccer heheh.. lets get this forum going again!

I too have been so wrapped up in flying gasser's and IMAC I haven't flown any gliders in probably 2 years. I recently moved intersate and there is quite a large number of glider folk and my new club (mostly large scale gliders) I have been flying the tug plane for them and it kind of sparked my interest in gliding again.

So over the last few weeks I have dusted of my old 3m glider and decided to give it a revamp. It had some battle damage from some birds and a fence (out landing) So I've stripped it back to bare bones fixed up all damage and recoverd it. I also dicided to bolt in an electric motor for fast easy launches. It should be finished it the next few weeks, just waiting on batteries and RX.

Gliders are cool. I suck at finding thermals but it's still fun.

I keep threating to get me a good full house ship. I've been looking at a composite and just haven't quite been able make my self do it .........yet! I'm still old school, I like the challenge of flying from a highstart. I have a few two channels and one electric, but haven't flown the electric for almost 3 years. I did get a few good rides a couple of weeks ago. 15+ minute flights.

I finally got around to getting the Rx and batts for the glider. She's all setup and ready to go tomorrow. The weather looks good so there should be some good lift around.

Flew the cirrus today. Didn't go as well as planned. The electric setup wasn't powerful enough for a strong climb and it handled like a dog under power. I will need to go to 4 cells to get some extra poke and maybe look at some down thrust on the motor. Also she was way to tail heavy. Back to the drawing board.

bit of a sore shoulder this morning. spent all day yesterday trimming 2 disc hand launch gliders.just finished a 84 inch "southerner" for vintage comps.a 1940 something design. anyboby know the year, as i need to know this. had a lineup of gliders for the camera the other day. 2 12 ft elec. gliders for elec. duration. 2 quarter scale jobs,a kirby kite and a k18. 2 full house thermal soarers, and the shoulder wrecker, the hlg. 1 third scale pawnee for towing, a 1 quarter scale cesna agwagon in full scale detail for towing and scale comps. this one is done in litho plate, 5.8 power and 26 pound. and the trusty old piper pa18. just about finished my third edge at 44% plus the 35% yak and a stephens akro at 42%, so i have have enough imac planes, and the wife still says, what the hell do you do all day. they dont seem to understand a mans needs. i look at all her camera gear, but i dare not ask what price. fine day so out comes the kitfox. alex
