hey guys,

i used to be a closet lawn darter. i got p.o'd with paying for 20% cool power fuel for a 140rx and switched to imac and gas power.

does anyone know if the 5kg weight rule still apply?

are the aircraft 2x2 still?

does anyone use a gas engine to huck the dart?

Yes, yes, and yes.

Somebody put a dart together with a gas motor. I believe it is an Abbra, but I don't remember which motor they used.

2 x 2 still applies as does the 5kg weight limit. They is some about raising the weight limit to help the electric folks, but I think it will still stay, at least for the time being.

Just stand by, things are going to get much better. F3A on steroids, its called F3M. A true world class competition platform with our large scale models. Provisional this year but I believe its going to happen. Go have a look www.f3m.com

The plane I was thinking of is an Impact and the guy used a ZDZ-40 RE.

He is from the UK.

I think there is a real upside to the F3M class as well.

Yes it is a very if not exact mirror image of the IMAC class flown in the USA. But it has rules that are international and that makes a huge difference when it comes to getting the 40% stuff into real international competitions.

I am sure that in a few years time we will see a lot more interaction with big money competitions that are truly international. Some one is sure to ask where will the money come from. Well it will come from the same place as it is today but from a pool of sponsors that circles the globe.

The prestige and publicity from a serious international F3M competition will be enormous.

I for one really hope the F3M batten gets picked up and run with. It will promote this sport/hobby like never before.

More on a gas powered pattern plane:

You'd have a really hard time making weight with a gas motor on the impact. A more suitable plane would be the Abbra. Several people have successfully flown it on the ZDZ-40 and kept it under weight rather easily. The Abbra was actually designed around the gas concept, so I think it'd be a better choice over the impact for gas power.

I agree Brett,

In my first post, when I mentioned the Abbra, I didn't find the info on it, I did find a thread on the Impact. I seem to remember the builder of the Impact did have a heck of a time making weight.
