My recently completed AW 260 Extra has had about twenty flights and flies very well with the following exception. When I am doing low speed loops it twists out of the loop and rolls off to the side. If I do the loop at higher speed and of larger diameter she track well. Balance is good and right on the recommended points. I am flying at low rates 30 degrees elevator and all surfaces appear straight. Using a DA 50 with a TBM 22-8 prop. No slippage in linkages and servos are HS 5955TG. No warping detected on any surfaces. Rudder and elevator gaps sealed but wings are not. Any suggestions?

How much did that thing cost?

30 degrees elevator? That would do it! My 96" AW Extra has 10.5 degree's on imac rates lol! And even then if you get hard on it it wants to snap a little.

It's not supposed to snap anyways. Check your lateral balance. Push a downline and yank it out with elevator, and notice the wing that drops. Put weight on the other wing to balance them.
Make sure your elevators are both deflecting the same. 30 deg's is way too much for precision too.

I sure would like to know what constitutes a loop for some people! I am baffled as to how many people complain about this, and I have never had such a problem in 20 years of flying, even with a plane that is not laterally balanced. Are you just pulling back on the stick and watching what happens? How quick are you trying to make the loop? How tight? If you consider 30 degrees low rates and you are using even one-third of that throw to do these loops, then I would say you are trying to do extremely tight loops. Airplanes with airfoiled stabs don't need much throw for most types of flying - a snap only takes 10-12 degrees. A loop, even flown pretty tight, only needs 5 degrees.
Yes, lateral balance and equal stab throws are also very important, but execution technique is also crucial. Many fliers find that they are accidentally also inputing aileron when they pull swiftly back on the right stick. Is it possible you are doing that? |

check your thrust line also you might have to addsome spacing to one corner of your motor mounts when it comes to a good imac set up someone told me ounce if you miss it by a inch you might as well have missed it by a mile
makes since to me |

Wow gotta agree with you Bodywerks.
Less throw and fly it thru the loops. |

yeah less throw will do you perfect. dont pull so hard keep a constant speed and dont let it slow down considerably until you get just about past center on the downside of the loop.

Don't forget to check for adverse/proverse roll with rudder application. Many planes also pitch down with rudder applicaton. Since I don't have any knife edge man. in Sportsman, I adjust my planes to get pure yaw with rudder application (i.e. get the plane to do a flat horizontal loop).
