Default Hanger 9 33% Cap 232??

Has any one been able to get this bird down to 23 pounds? I'm going to try and use a Fuji BT 86 on ch ignition and would like to get some 3D performance out of it. Thanks.

Steve,
Mine is at 24 pounds and 2 ounces. I'm running a 3W-80 TOC (twin) and have some fairly heavy NiMh batteries. You'd have to trim a bunch off if you are going to run that motor even if you've put it on the C&H diet. I just happened to get lucky and get a light airframe out of the box. (Some fellow over in China just happened to grab some light parts all the way around when he was building this one!) I'm also using a single 8611A on the rudder that saved a little bit of weight. Until I got through the break-in process with the Lawnboy ashless oil, the 3-Dub was not a real barn-burner. When I switched to synthetic and leaned the needles I finally got a lot of get up and go out of it. The vertical is really good and the pop out of a hover is excellent. Not 100 or 106 crazy but it gets with the program.

Thanks. I think I'm going to use just one aileron servo also. I'm going to order the Graphtec gear and I already have a CF wing tube.

Steve,
You might want to re-think the single aileron thought....... The ailerons are so long that they flex in flight. I've heard of people that try that but usually go back to two servos to get rid of the flexing and fluttering.
Be careful with that Fuji! Parts for it are and arm and a leg! Our now deceased friend (Bob Upton) had one and took it for a dirt bath. He offered to give it away because a crank and a jug was about one and a half times the cost of a whole new motor!
How does the Graphtech gear hold up to the weight of a 33% bird. I've thought of replacing mine and the tube to save a little more weight.

Curt,
Don't know about Steve and his Fuji but I got a good deal on a NIB 3-DUB 80 twin TOC version that was old style and out of production. Since I tend to not give my motors the occasional dirt bath, I figured I'll run the life out of this one and enjoy it till the end. I'm not a fan of the Fuji motors due to the high cost of replacement parts. They are a tad heavy and the performance is not to my liking. (They do run and get you flight time and that's important to a lot of folks.) I was wondering about performance when I first ran my 80 in this CAP. Once it broke in it really moved this bird around pretty good. A lot of people would have gone straight to a 100 cc motor and I have flown a couple of H-9 CAPs with them under the cowl. This 80 gives a strong performance and I haven't regretted it a bit. I'm about to acquire a new style DA 100 and put it on a H-9 Extra 260. Let you guys know what it feels like to move on up!
BTW: If anybody needs some Fuji 32 parts, give me a PM....... I have several useful parts for this boat anchor if anyone is interested. (Patooooooooiey on a Fuji....... It left me with a bad taste in my mouth!)

Wango, the Graphtec gear has its own issues. I've learned to run a wire between the gear legs to keep them from flexing out and now they are doing great. I've used the CF gear on several planes now. I may use two aileron servos, but they will be 56XX series. If I can pick up 5 new 7955's I'll try just one for the first few flights. This will just be a bangaround plane and not set up for IMAC. I have one for that.

exeter, I realy have no choice on the motor right now. I got this (plane, engine) combo in a trade this weekend from someone that just didn't want it, and I don't have the funds right now to pick up a 100cc, or I'd do it. Both are new and the motor has yet to be mounted, so I'm going to lighten up the motor box area also. I'd like to run smoke, but this one is just getting the basics to keep it light. I'll run two Fromeco batts, regs, and switches with a single reciever.

Good luck on the maiden!!
I decided to sell the Fuji and a DA 50 I had lying around and pick up a used BME 102. Should be a good combo.

I had one with a DA 85, unbelievable power. The BME 102 would be a great choice too, Your going to cut the crap out of the cowl tho.

Hope I don't have to do tooooo much cutting. I do like to have good air flow though. Looks like I'm going with four aileron servos (5645). Hope to try just one 7955 on the rudder though. One 5955 on each elevator.

I have the H9 Cap. It weighs 25 pounds on the nose. I'm running a Taurus 72 (6 lbs 14 0z.), 24-8 ZOAR, and a set of carbon fiber gear with 3" lite wheels. I am using 1 5645 on the rudder, 2 Hitec 985's on the elev., and 2 DS 821's on each aileron. 1 6v nimh for receiver and 1 4.8 nimh for ignition.
The Taurus drags it around like a rag doll. Hovers at 1/3 throttle-vertical, it's not a rocket, but it will go out of site fairly quickly.
I have a BT 86 EI on my 1/3 scale BSUA Cub and really like the combo. It weighs 30 lbs and will hover at 5/8 throttle with a 26-10 carbon fiber prop.
I think the BT 86 on ignition is a great choice for the CAP! The cost is low and it is a great-smooth running engine.
