Here are some pics while I still try to get the paint right on the Helmet/Visor.

First we have a set of the NEW RED AERO BLING on the plane

Now this is how you install the pilot to the plane. I take the base and trace it on thin ply. I then cut it out with a scroll saw. Then glue in the body. I drill a hole in the center so I can get to the head (normally I maket head removable this way) and I install 2 blind nuts so I can screw the base to the plane. I sand the base to make sure its all flush at the bottom. I then make a paper template of the base and use that for where I want the body and I can mark the hole locations.

Ok, now for the fun part. I took a HXT900 servo (foamie servo) and I simply tried to center it. I glue in 2 rails for it to sit on. I then used some scrap wood that happened to be the right circular shape and glued that to the head. The splines sit through the center hole. I then simply glued the servo arm to the wood and install the arm. I had to clean up the neck a little and sand down the edges but it works. On my plane I'm using the EQ-6 so it was simple to install the head into the 3rd rudder slot and I was able to reverse the servo so it looks toward the ground in Knife Edge

No that isn't the problem......my computer is F-ed up. The video freezes but the sound plays and that is how it saved on YT. I'm going to have to move the video to my laptop and re-upload it. It'll take a few minutes.

I'll work on that for the next pilot. I know there is some voice software out there as well as I've seen a guy with it before.

Sam,

You are only the second person that I've seen animate the Mega Pilot head. You should work in the Disneyland audio animatronics shop!

Great job!

Maybe when I retire. I enjoy flying real combat planes too much for now.

Thanks for the props though. I wanted to make this 37% PAU Ultimate with lots of BLING

thanks guys for an awesome product! Just painted the base colours for the face and have started the weathering - dry brushing. In the mean time Ive started on building the new visor. I have a fair bit of heating and shaping to go, but for 30mins work, it is coming along i think. (the blue tape is just to hold it together.........

Ill have to grab some plastic card and make up the visor straps, top strip that goes along the top of the visor and also the sides on the ear piece area of the helmet. Once Im happy with it all, the airbrush will come out for the helmet Considering going Lime green with black checks with silver highlights around the checks.

Apologies for the crappy mobile phone pics, Ill pull out the decent camera tomorrow!

cheers

Oh and if anyone else is considering doing this mod, i found that the plastic case that screws onto the blanks CDROM spindles fits the bill fairly nicely for a 35% pilots visor. Would probably suit the 40% a little better!

cheers
