Hey guys, I just received my 110" Yak-54 from Extreme Flight and as much as the helmet head that comes with it looks great, this thing is SO tempting. Have any of you put the 40% in the EF Yak-54? The 33% seems like it would be way to small. Thanks for any help!
Being that I don't have much $ and am trying to get my 110 flying ASAP to get some practice for the upcoming contests, I'm just wondering if I should splurge on one of these beauties.

Here is a good side by side comparison.
What is "best" is sorely your preference. I personally favored the larger looking pilot in the cockpit. (NOTE -Helmet heads are no longer in production) If you really want to have more fun with it- we can ship it so you can articulate the head to move with the rudder. Review this thread and you will see quite a few have followed that route too! Its a hoot at the airfield! ![]() rede, I sure hope you can make the Z3D 4-10-10. Like to smoke a stogie with ya again this year.- . |

I fly the EF 88" Yak 54 and use the 40% Pilot. It's an optical illusion because the airplanes, as beautiful as they are, are not exact scale. That combined with the angle in which we view the airplane from above, the same scale pilot looks small.

Seems this illusion works well on the bigger 2-holer canopies. Although on my 35% Extra 330SC, the 33% fits and looks (I think) about perfect

Typically you will find that pilot busts need to be 1 size larger than the plane to look scale. Not always mind you but in general it works. Also you need to measure out the canopy area to be sure they fit. For example my 37% Ultimate wouldn't fit a 40% pilot bust and I had to cut the 33% down to make it fit.
I will say that the Red Aero pilots tend to look better with the same size though. They are close enough that you can get away with a 33% on a 35% plane and because the pilots look so scale in appearance the size isn't as obivious. I'm getting ready for my 4th Red Aero Pilot

Thanks for being such a good customer Sweetpea. We appreciate your support.
Also, Propstriker, the Visor Down pilot looks awesome in your Dalton. Let us know how the first flight goes. |

Just got the 40% pilot in a 35% Extra300. I think it looks just the right size. I'll plan on taking him for a spin this weekend so I will try to post better pics later.

Thanks for the input guys! I thought that a local guy was going to buy the helmet head pilot that I currently have, but he decided not to. Because of that, at this time, I really don't have the money to buy one, but still hope to upgrade someday. And yes, it will definitely be a 40% size! Thank you again!

A little better picture as I promissed.
To recap: 40% pilot in a 35% Extra 300. Epoxied some light ply with blind nut installed to the pilot base and attached it will socket cap screws to the hatch base. Had to trim off about 1/2 inch so he would fit under the canopy. |
