I like the microphone. I'd just glue it in with some shoe goo. Nature's (at least R/C anyway) shock absorber.

Actually...I used shoe goo to down in side the mold...The microphone broke of on the boom..about 1/4" from where it goes into the helmet. Other than that..I love the pilot.

We are taking steps to better secure the microphone. It's a nice detail and we would hate to omit it, but engine vibration is our biggest obstacle when making these. We could over-build everything, but then they would be heavy. We try to walk that thin line that gives us to deliver a strong, but light part.
From here on out, we're going to start adding additional material in the area where the microphone goes into the helmet. If people keep having trouble with it, we may include it as an option and let the customer decide if he wants to add it or not.

What do you think?

ouch. Maybe the mic material needs to be stronger or just some metal instead?

Hi Sweetpea,
The material is aluminum rod. We use that because it's light. I've seen them vibrate loose where they mount into the helmet, but never at any other point. Murphy's law always applies. Like I said, we could over engineer them, but then they would be too heavy. I'll put on my thinking cap and try to come-up with an alternate microphone design. The mic adds a nice touch of detail without any weight penalty.

Thanks for the comments from everyone. They are very helpful.

If you PM me with your address, I will send you a new microphone. Just carefully twist the piece of rod out with pliers and glue-in the new one.

Well Jeff C of Jax. FL. gets credited for the newest "custom style" option!
40% Visor Down with goatee!
I had to share the picture as I think this is really soooo cool!!

For those who are wondering, the Full helmet and IMAC guys are all the same dimensions - yet easily cut down with a Dremel type cutoff wheel.
