Default Will my old Futaba Conquest 6Ch PCM Transmitter work for foamy?

Hey folks! Name is Kelly and I am brand new to the forum here and I want to get into foamies! A little bit of history about me-
First learned to fly in the early 90's as a teenager. Flew with brother and Dad for several years. Eventually moved up to .60 sized Extra 300's and got pretty cocky with the thing. I would say I haven't flown in at least 10 years. I have been going nuts on the Great Planes PC flight similator and am really interested in getting back into the great sport of RC. So I want to do 3D backyard flying and I think a foamy would fit the application just fine, but can I use one of my old transmitters?

I have a 6Ch PCM Conquest FP-T6NPK which is a 72 MHz transmitter. Will todays foamy micro recievers mate up to my radio? Or do I have to buy one of today's computerized transmitters that do all the mixing and such?

Thanks In Advance, this forum seems to be really great so far!

Kelly

I have the 8Ch PCM and I mated up with one of the micro receivers. No problem.

Woo Hoo! Im stoked. Appreciate the quick reply! Im going to start piecing together a setup. Also going to be researching for the most durable foamy as hitting the ground may be inevitable until I get the hang of it. Any specifics you guys can share about a particularly durable setup? Also when I pick up a micro reciever, anything specific I need to know to ensure compatibility between my older Conquest radio?

Thanks Again,
Kelly

Mine is the Castle Creations Berg 7p 7Ch FM, its not PCM so you need to switch your transmiter to FM. I got mine form Tower Hobbies. Castel Creations also makes the voltage regulator for the motor.
It's been a couple of years since I have flown mine so this is not the latest that's out there but it works.

From what I have seen on that radio it is PCM only. The only receivers that will work are PCM receivers. I have not seen any of the Micro receivers that ore PCM.

For some reason I rmember that TX transmitting only in PCM as well. But Fuataba makes a mini PCM RX that would probably work. The part # is FUTABA-R146IP. Hope this helps. You should be able to find that RX just about anywhere.

Right on guys, thanks so much for everyone's help here and getting me on the right track. I found the R146IP on Ebay for around $50 and it weighs .56 oz's. Hopefully that isn't too large for today's small 3D foamies. If so, I may do what 3Disaster recommends and go larger. These Kansas winds can be something else anyway so going larger couldn't hurt. Im really getting the bug here and have been researching the board like crazy. I have really taken to this Great Planes setup called the U-Can-Do 3D FlightFlex EP ARF. It seems pretty economical and even comes with a motor, but it's brushless and I have read you shouldn't run them for too long to avoid a heat situation. Anyhow..much to research but I am glad I have my radio dillema answered here. Thanks again for everyone's input and anything additional you guys can provide would be outstanding. I hope to hit the sky in the next few weeks!

Thanks Again,
Kelly

The motor in the UCD is brushed. You really want a brushless motor anyhow (eaiser, and in most cases more powerfull). Plus I heard the UCD is a bit floppy, but you can add some CF rods to fix that. I'd go for one of DW's BAF (Big Ass Foamie ) foamies. They are a good size and handle wind nicely.
