Default TUNA BOAT Back from the dead - Part DEUX

I speak to Max on a fairly regular basis, we go over some technical items for the site and I get his opinions as to how things are going in general in regard to the FG community.

Max called last week and said "Sleepy, the site is doing great, I'm very happy with everything, but I have to say, your missing one small thing."

At this point, I got nervous, what could it be? Was it the pictures? Was it the videos? The Leading edge stories? Did I forget to interview some RC hero?!?!?! WHAT!! MAN!! COME ON SPILL IT!!!

Max added, "all the pictures from the events are missing something very important. So important that I can't believe you didn't notice it"

I was stumped. Did my camera suck? Did my photo style not fit? AGAIN I ASKED...
COME ON SPILL IT!!!

Max casually said.. "dude... the pictures are missing shots of the TUNA BOAT! The TB needs to be there at the shows, it needs to see the people."

Ahhhh, come to think of it, Max was right, in St. Louis a father had brought his two kids up and asked to take a picture with the Tuna Boat, and it was no where to be found.

It's very rare that a plane becomes iconic, and yet the Tuna Boat has. It was Mad Max's first giant scale plane, it's the plane that on its own merit slowly became the mascot of the Flyinggiants. During the call it was decided that the Tuna Boat would be crated up and take a trip from the sunny rays of California to the rolling fields of corn in Ohio. A few calls to Toro and HeyDick and the process was underway. (These guys really did an amazing job crating the TB for its journey. I think there are some great pictures of Heydick and Toro working as Max tested the durability of his trucks tailgate by sitting on it for extended periods of time.)

I picked up the crate yesterday, the plane made it in one piece...
And so the project begins...

Max can huck, everyone knows this, and the Tuna Boat knows this as well. The poor plane was rode hard and put away wet. We will have to give the boat some good TLC to bring her back from the dead!

Follow this thread in the weeks to come to see the TB restored to its former glory!

We will be slapping in a well broken in DA-150, and a whole electrical package from www.42-percent-products.com . Hopefully if the wallet allows I will have her ready for a re-debut at the Heart of Ohio Huckfest on September 5 - 7th.

So stay tuned, we are bringing the Tuna Boat back from the dead!

Probably a dumb question..........What is the origin of the Tuna Boat name? That is if it can be explained in this forum.

The PLANE is HUGE for a 150cc plane.
It makes my Carden 330 look small.

The inside is HUGE as well, so it started to be called a Tuna Boat.

Max might chime in and give an account of the actual moment the term was coined.

Power system that will be used is from www.42-percent-products.com

The main receiver power will be provided by (2) 5200 ma lit ion batteries, that will run through (2) power pole switches, then into (2) 10A adjustable regulators which will run into the 12/24 power box system.

The receiver power will be supplied by (1) 2600 lit ion battery into a standard heavy duty switch, into a 6 V reg, with a opto-gas kill attached.

I'm moving early next week, so the project will have to take a little break, but as soon as I'm in the new house, and back from the CT Huckfest, I'll be going at this full steam ahead.

I'll have a full rundown of the electronics being installed with specs and all, as well as anything else we do to the TB.

So again.. sorry for the "teaser" but stay tuned!
