A friend of mine has purchased this airframe already built, partially covered but not hinged. He's concerned about the lack of aileron throw. As built, the ailerons will go about 30 degrees each way. If we put some gap in the hinge line we can get a little more. Personally, I think this will be enough throw for both IMAC and 3d. But he's worried he'll not have enough for 3d flying.
Who's flying this plane and how much throw are you using on 3d rates? If I have to, I can pull the covering off the ailerons or the wing or both, sharpen the bevels, and re-cover. |

You will need about 25-30 for IMAC ( to make the snaps look good ). For 3d - 30' wont hold it from tourqe rolling.

Most guys use 35-45 for 3-D. You are probably fine for IMAC. Since its not hinged yet.....cut the covering off the hinge line and rebevel. Then you can just cover over the hingeline and seal the hinge at the same time.

If this is too much, tone it down though. I suggest NOT using too much expo to "soften the fee".

The main reason you would want 25-30 is for the snaps, The rest you could get by with 20' or so - just your feel. If you are a little week on ailerons it will pendulum a little much.

I just checked mine and I have 16' for my Imac and doing 3d I only have 30' also which it does fine but it doesnt hold in tourqe rolls very well. I was going to up the low rate a little bit to make the snap a little faster.
Aileron: 16deg Elevator: 18deg rudder : 25deg these rates will get REALLY close for IMAC - the 16' on ail does roll fairly fast - you do need that higher rate for doing the downline maneuvers and snaps. Last edited by ddlstang; 07-18-2008 at 09:47 PM. |

Just curious, why is there no counter-balance on the rudder of that 260?

just trying something new. The plane fly's outstanding, have flown about 4 other Daltons and have had other Dalton owners fly this one. Something came out right. There is very little roll coupling and that little balloon during the roller is non-existent with this one. It also stops on a dime in a snap - very controllable. I hav'nt weighed it but it is probably around 38#.
