Default YS 160 problems

Hi all,

I'm having some problems with my YS 160DZ. It's giving me problems in the mid-range, coughing then stopping, but low end and High end are fine. Is there something I can alter to fix this? I have no experience with these engines.

Alex

Hi Alex, the first question Bogan would ask is "What colour is your oil?" ie. are you running cool power blue, red or pink? The YS 160 only runs on the thin stuff otherwise you can spend days trying to get your engine to run propperly... We had the same problem with Lewis's (ex browney's) 2X2 - as soon as we changed the oil it ran perfeckly

pink, cool power 30% nitro is the number one choice, however with the world wide shortage... 20%.. with a readjustment of the needle....

I've always heard that the blue was the preferred fuel over Pink? After adding the Nitro I will have to re-adjust the oil content won't I?

Not in a YS 4-stroke... the blue oil is too thick and you end up having the very same problems you have - you need to run the pink or red? (might want to confirm with bogan)

I'm pretty sure most people run 30% nitro as well - it makes for an expensive fuel mix but thats what you need to run them - I'm pretty sure you can go down to 20% nitro without any major problems but you get petter performance on 30%.

You'll need to mix up a new batch of fuel with the pink (or red?) oil and use the recommended oil and nitro %... you won't be able to simply add nitro to standard cool power blue glow fuel.

Flick Bogan an email to get his fuel mix ratios, they work great - Pitty the fuel is so expensive - I think 1Can worked out it was around $5 per flight with his Pinnacle!

I have 4 x 1 USG bottles of the Thin viscosity Coolpower for the YS DZ series engines in stock. It's not on my website yet but contact me through the contacts page.

Mix is, 22% low viscosity oil, 20% Nitro with 58% Methanol or for max performance 22% oil, 30% Nitro with 48% Methanol.

Cheers
Alan
