Bodywerks is right in that there would be little to no weight gain by going with a third bay. Its not just the rails but to ribs need to be stiffer and more sheeting will need to be added, this would add about 3 oz's to each wing wich is the same weight as a servo and linkage. Oh and by the way the 260's in all sizes seem to come out a pound liter than the yak when finished so I would expect about 21 pounds without carbon another 3/4 of a pound with carbon so just that simple mod would make the plane come out about 20.25 pounds thats pretty good for any 75-80cc motor don't you think?

If everyone is so worried about the ailerons flexing, when you get the plane, how hard would it be to slit the covering on the aileron, notch out a tiny area and insert a carbon fiber strip that would run about 75% or even 50% of the surface. ( like 3" or so inside of the 1st servo pocket and then on outward towards the wing tip)
Keep it a tight fit, glue it in.. bammo. stiffer control surface. Would this work?

It might but I would just as soon use two servos and be done with it.

the 58 wouldn't be nearly enough, IMO. I know that they are only good for 16.5 pounds here for unlimited performance.

Bodywerks,
Not everyone flies at 5000+ feet.

I'd stick a DA-100 in it. all those H9 planes are 96-98 inches wingspan and a lot of them run on Da-100's. Why not?

I had the H9 Cap 232 with a DA100 and it was insane power. But it was also too heavy. The H9 planes fly much better on a 80 single. It comes out much lighter that way, and handles better. If you were at a very high elevation, like bodywerks, I could see the 100 cc, but like I said, noit everybody flies at 5000+ feet.

Well, you'd still likely be at 20+ pounds with the 58, which wouldn't be impressive even at sealevel.
I suppose that if you went single aileron servos, CF everything possible except prop, and no extra goodies, you might get in the 19 pound range, which would be "OK" at sealevel, but still not impressive...

on the evolution 58 thing, with the evolution can/pipe the engine is a powerhouse. 26x10 at around 6000. this would certainly power this aircraft at sealevel.
i had a yak with a restrictive pitts muffler and a 58 and it did a 3w prop 24x10 at 6500. it hucked real good. that plane weighed 18.5 pounds(real world figure using a calibrated scale). i know this is not an engine forum but i think some people seriously underrate this engine pipe configuration. aerowiz. |
