I am in the NE region but I would like to try and come down the the SE regional championship because the NE region doesn't have a regional championship. So is there anyway for an out of region pilot to compete in the SE regional contest.

Thanks,
Neil Westdorp

Well guy's,

I am impressed on how everyone has voice some good opinions and criticisms about our current points system and regional championships. One thing i think i need to make everyone aware of is the only reason the nats are an open contest is that the ama requires it. Not IMAC. Imac made the decision years ago to bring our nationals to Muncie and that did not come without strings attached, the ama mandated that the nats be an open contest. Now the definition of the word Championship is a term used in sport to refer to various forms of competition in which the aim is to decide which individual or team is the champion. So given the word championship shouldn't it be for deciding the best pilot within a class who has qualified for that championship by earning enough points to get there?

Lets keep it coming guys

why not a qualifying day to see who competes on Sat and Sun? Just like they did at the Masters? Start a new 'tradition' ?

There is some very good discussion. I think the 5 bonus point system was a good idea, but it punished smaller contests. I know some will say they should advertise more, or get more people in the are involved. I think we should have a top 10 only regionals, and there should be no bonus points.

Josh B., what do you think?

Well usually for World Cup you have sooo many groups. Example.
Group 1
USA
Brazil
Mexico
Canada

These four teams play each other which are three games. 3 points for a win and 0 for a loss and 1 for a tie. After the three games I believe the top two move on to the bracket tournament stage.

But that means IMAC wise we would have to do something like this. Just make a tournament bracket and we draw who goes against who. ha ha. Be my luck I go against Pride first round of the play offs and get knock out!!!

Would be a lot of fun but DIFFERENT!!! It could work. just a wild idea.

Be cool if we could do this.

16 pilots each class 4 groups of 4.
Three rounds of known friday and one unknown saturday.

top two people in each group move on to tournament part. But each pilot will be going against someone else. So basically after group rounds they go to the Elite 8
Fly either one known or unknown round for elite 8. Winner goes on to semi finals fly one unknown or known. If there was time do 1 round of known and unknown for both 8 and final 4.
Then for finals def fly one unknown and known.

hey its a idea. WAY different!!!

Or just go straight to bracket round!!!

Since this is my first year of flying IMAC, I'm sure there are some things I'm missing. Could anyone explain what the benefits are to limiting Regionals to the top 10. In my view, winning your class would be kind of hollow since some of the best pilots in the class may not be there. As an example, in Basic class this year Jamie Turner and Jonathon Gurley have won contests, but neither of them has much of a chance (or any chance) of making the top 10.

well i gotta say this....
in nascar you dont just go to one race and expect to be in the race for the cup or w/e they call it.
i do see your point though! It really are boils down to do we want to make it a competitive region or relaxed region.

We likely will have a strong turnout at Triple Tree this weekend so I see some lively discussion around the barbque pit coming......a good thing.

Kevin,
In Na$car only the top 12 make the chase and points are normalized but, everyone goes to the biggest, most prestigious race of the year, Daytona.
I think we should be doing everything we can to promote participation and recruit new competitors, and I don't think having a closed regionals does either of these things. I'm a new guy on the block and I would be willing to drive 8 hrs to fly in a regionals but because of scheduling conflicts and event cancellations I don't have a chance of finishing in the top 10. I'm planning to make 2 more contests this year and had originally hoped to make 6. Looking back at the results from last year I see that there were only 3 basic guys at regionals, not good participation.

Not true. A good pilot who's on top will remain on top [mid-airs notwithstanding]
