I like what Jeff said maybe we need to reduce the amount of scored contest due to the high price of fuel and everything else.

OK,..my $.02,
The Southeast "Championships" should be exactly that. The Championships!
Reserved for the 10 highest scoring pilots from there 6 best finishes to determine the most accomplished pilot in there respective class.
I know IMAC is all about fun and fellowship, but really now........it is also a competition to find the best pilots out there.
I for one focus on the Championships all season long,....I know If I don't finish well in the "Open" contest,....I am jeopardising my spot in the "Championships"
Its true some people don't get to as many contest as others, but that is where dedication to this sport comes into play. The pilots in the Regional need to have earned there way there by showing there dedication to IMAC and consistently flying and finishing well in contest throughout the season.
The Regionals is the Last Mac Daddy, 3 Day, contest of the Season and should be reserved for the pilots who have paid there dues all season long and earned the right to be there.

He's talking the 5 points for every pilot you beat stuff. Tony, I am not sure what you are speaking about. I think you are both right.

Josh,

The 5 pts were used for tie breakers only. The new point system gives the 5 pts to all which gives "lucky points" to those who attend large contests. IMAC should not be about luck! It should be about good flying, good friends and family, and good times.

There is an RFA in to change the current points system but I haven't heard anything about it yet. Nothing on the IMAC website either.

Pride I think you should research this and ask members who have been around for the last few years but i do know i am correct. Craig those are not lucky points those are points for every pilot you beat. I think Montey said it right its about dedication and getting out there and competing. Scavenged around my shop today and rounded up all my scrap aluminum to have a bit of cash to help for this weekend.
Its not easy for anyone ...

I would disagree with you Tony. I have no control of the number of pilots that show up to compete. Therefore, the points are lucky!

But if I was only able to make contest that had probably 5-8 sportsman pilots (which it has been like this for the past two years with me) and the contest I couldnt make which were down in Florida I notice had 15 or more pilots i believe just in Sportsman doesnt help me out any! If it was like Nascar and we won money late stated above I wouldnt mind this because then I would travel everywhere. But then again it is hard for south Florida pilots to make contest up here around SC AL, GA, and NC.

To start my opinions on the subject,, I am learning alot about the IMAC rules and regs, and since I will be flying sportsman in Camden in Semptember(should be pretty,,LOL),, I would just like to see the 6 required contest get dropped to 4 contest,,, point being,, (I know Josh B. and Kent P. will agree) for certain circumstances,, there were two contest cancelled in North Carolina this year,, the Fayetteville IMAC and the ECRC IMAC,, I made the first Camden contest,, and am going to the second,, and then I would have made the Fayetteville and the ECRC which would have gave me my 4 required contest,, that is just an example,, , I realize some guys can make more contest and other,, I just started a new job this spring and have limited vacation, that has hindered me from making 2-3 more contest,, I realize it is all to his self, ,,, but I disagree with who ever makes the most contest and and drives the fartherest gets rewarded just for being fortunate enought to do that,, I just think the regionals should be a open contest for SE guys, just like the NATS,, and ran just like the NATS so it will run smoothly and quickly,, and I heard several people comment on the subject of what if a man that has made 8 contest and leading the points gets beat that weekend by a guy that has made 3 contest,,, well it is a 3 day contest ,, ,, I personally rather get beat by someone that is "flying better" or is just a better pilot than me no matter who it is,rather than making a better or a good pilot set at home because he wasn't able to make 6 contest,, because of family, work, money or whatever the case maybe,,

Sorry Tony, let's not get this headed in the wrong direction. There was no bonus points system last year. The winner of the competition got 1000pts, not 1000 + 5 x (number of pilots beaten). There is no research necessary. We just need to be talking about the same thing.

I knew there was a reason we couldn't get this updated. Look at this. 1000 for 1st, no bonus

Where is it said that you must attend 6 contest to qualify for the regionals????
If a pilot only makes say,...5 contest, but consistently finishes in the top 3,
then I would be willing to bet he would be in the top 10 for the championships.
He may not go in as point leader, but would still be there to have a good shot of winning the class in the region.

I think the regionals should be a closed contest. As Gurley mentioned, the Fayetteville and ECRC contest were canceled. Both of those I had planned to attend. I was going to watch at Fayetteville, and fly at ECRC. Both of those would have been my first contest. Well, as I understand it, the ECRC event was canceled due to lack of participation. That's an issue. If people aren't showing up to the contest, no matter what their level of flying is, there should be a reward for those who support the regional events, because, if there isn't, who's going to stop me from saying, hey, IMAC looks cool, I'll go kick butt at the regionals in Unlimited. And if I do, will that not disinfranchise those who've worked hard all year? There has to be a bar set high enough to keep me out, and entice those who deserve it.

Just my newbie $.02 worth....

Chris

p.s. I do not possess the skill level to kick butt in unlimited at the regionals......
